Why is this still up?

These bootleg cassettes have been getting printed and sold by the same seller for months now...how has this not been stopped at this point? I hate to be that guy, but, after awhile, it definitely feels wrong that they're still able to profit off of the tapes. I understand making copies for you and your friends, but the same shop has been selling them for at least half a year now, if I'm not mistaken. There is also an etsy page where they've been selling the same bootleg tapes, but I can't be bothered to find that right now. Obviously, I don't know what can be done about this, and this is not an isolated incident, but this particular case is a bit more extreme than the others that have popped up over time.

Somebody who knows MDG should inform him. It's definitely bullshit. Maybe send him a PM?

I agree. I reported it as unauthorized replications via the "report" link listed on the the item page. Maybe if enough people do it, ebay will take action.

eBay and mdg have been contacted. All we can really do I guess?

For the record, if the seller is reading this, I hope a plague of locusts infests your underwear you leech.

I reckon this will keep happening unless BOC release it themselves. No idea why that hasn't occurred to them.

This is true to an extent.

The Old Tunes tapes will always be an significant part of BoC lore so I feel there will always be somewhat of a demand for these bootlegs, but you're right - an official release would definitely shrink that demand.

Licences for all those samples? Ouch. £$¥€

I don't think we'll ever see them released, I mean, we already have them and do we really need tape recordings in better quality? It's like having Au Clair de la lune on the pnhonautograph converted to flac, just so you still can't hear it, better.

Like Mexi said, £££ for samples and what does releasing them actually achieve? I think it breaks or harms the lore that they inadvertently achieved with them being leaked. It preserves their ethos and mystique staying as it is, and of course people will try and profit from it. The only people it harms in the process are the gullible completists who would part with their cash for something that they already have. It's not as if they can show something like that off to many people.

Yeah, the money-and, more importantly, annoyance-involved in clearing is what leads me to believe that we'll never get full reissued early collections...more likely a new compilation of the old originals (or, even more likely, outtakes from no earlier than Twoism). It's a shame, because the samples certainly lend toward the unique qualities of the collections, but I'd take anything at this point.

I don't have the link handy, but I do recall a portion of the songs that are on AFOT, to be registered with an official music database to acknowledge ownership and copyright protection.

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe this also fuelled some speculation that certain tracks have been cleared, giving support to the mythical BOC set release.

When XYZ was officially cleared for the Peel session reissue, I did wonder what else they were able to clear up.

I really doubt we'll ever see Old Tunes tracks ever get a proper release due to the samples. Blockbusters, Sir Prancelot Brainfire, Music For Pylons, and P.C. spring to mind as they're mostly just samples.

Mike and Marcus should dub over the samples with their own voices. Like they did for One Very Important Thought, but without hiring someone else to do it. Plus they'd save some cash.

Have to agree with NorthernPlastics - I just assume that if they were ever to release old stuff, it would be a highly curated collection and not straight dumps of OTv1, 2, etc. Unless they went the Soundcloud route, which I'd bet pretty strongly that they'll never do. We already know that they have spent significant time cataloging their old tracks as well as working on a collection of older works. But I don't think sample rights would be an issue for most of what they would choose to release.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if the AFOT tapes were released in their complete form. There'd likely be a lot of curation involved.

Top Gear was produced by the BBC, no wonder they love using BoC tunes
They also played some other TH tracks on their Chernobyl episode, but I couldn't find it in youtube
