Not sure whether to believe this due to lack of provenance and no post history from the poster. Then again, the handwriting looks absolutely spot on. What are your thoughts?

Handwriting does look legit, but I'm keeping my sceptical hat on - 'made in England' looks like a giveaway...

I could be wrong, but I'd always assumed all their recording has been done in Scotland.

Actually to be fair, Old Tunes says Made In England too. Had to compare them to see if there were any giveaways such as that

I think it's a well-done fake. The Music70 logo is by far the most convincing part and it could easily have been taken from the Old Tunes liner.

All of their early recordings say "Made in England." That part's fine. What identifies it as a fake is the claim that it's the liner notes for Closes vol. 1.

Music70 logo has a big white box around it, which would normally indicate that this is fake and the logo was ripped from somewhere else and just pasted on top in photoshop.

There's a VERY slight chance this could still be real though, I think the only way to justify the white box around the logo is if BOC wrote out the liner notes, had the Music70 logo cut out from a different piece of paper, applied it to the notes, and then photocopied it so that they could have cheap printed j-cards. The logo may have been flush to the scanner bed resulting in a clearer scan, while the top left of the notes are slightly raised which would explain why there's a shadow and more obvious paper texture. Coupled with this being a low resolution scan of a (likely) low resolution scan with poor bit depth, I think that's the only way to explain this. I don't really know why BOC would do that though unless they were trying to keep the logo consistent between releases but afaik it's always just been hand written.

Can anyone track down other instances of this exact music70 logo being used? I think that's the only way to be sure. Nice investigation! Right now I assume this is fake unless we get more info. I would agree with the last point though - it seems crazy to spend the time painstakingly mimicking the bros' handwriting only to cut and paste that logo, which would probably be the easiest part to hand copy. It might be worth noting that both OT cassettes have cut out rectangles for logos and titles...

A similar analysis on known-legit hand written tape inlays could show if they've done that before (cutting out paper and applying to label before photocopying).

Ok I mentioned this on a Reddit thread but it bears repeating here.

For background, I spent years working as a forgery investigator for a large national bank and have a lot of experience with handwriting analysis.

Looking at a known legit handwriting sample, specifically the Old Tunes casettes, we see there are letters that were written consistently on them that don't look the same on this liner. For example, the R's are very consistent on the Old Tunes writing, and they don't look anything like the R's on the Closes liner. The rounded part is noticeably larger on the OT writing. Also look at the G's- for example the G in "Godever" vs. the G in "King of Carnival." They don't look anything alike.

Even putting aside the fact that it's a tape liner without the most coveted part of Closes - the songs - uploaded from a 4 hour old account, the handwriting doesn't match.

It's fake.

Yep, sounds like in lieu of any additional info or MDG popping in for the first time in 6 years to verify it's a fake (unlikely because there's no MUSIC to assess), your assessment is good enough for me.

Certainly looks nice, but I'm immediately suspicious of anyone that shows up with just a pic and leaves it to discussion. If you really had it then what do you gain watching people either call it fake or hound you to rip it? Either share the contents or just never tell anyone you own it.

Only reason I can think to simply share this pic and leave it at that is it's just a fake.

I wonder how they're gonna try to excuse not having the cassette with it lmao. "Yeah, I had a Closes tape at one point but Mike & Marcus broke into my house during the night and took the tape itself leaving me with only these liner notes!"

Writing some words on a piece of paper in a style vaguely similar to one you've seen before is easy, the only thing that could convince me this is real is if they posted some of the actual music (the pirate copy full of relabeled Old Tunes tracks and that shitty Trails remix doesn't count ).

I’d venture a guess that of all the pre-twoism albums, Closes Vol 1 is the one that they’d feel the least cringe about fans hearing in full as-is. The tracks we’ve heard (or think we’ve heard) from it all feel pretty strongly Boards-y. If there’s a rip of this floating around out there, let’s have it.
