The composer Graeme Revell, whom they allegedly worked with, of that 2004 film is based in New-Zealand. We all know they lived there for a while. And it's a sci-fi movie/score. So it isn't totally far fetched.

Secondly, there's mention of that song by High Skies. I looked into this artist on Discogs and found out he also records as Gas and he has this amazing 1995 space idm ambient album. Artwork features turquoise hexagons, go figure, and is designed by The Designers Republic.

This thread might be about yet another bogus website, but that album by Gas is really good! People who like early Biosphere will dig this too definitely. A silver lining after all.

Not trying to defend NFTs. Everyone can like and hate something to their own preference.

However, I do want to clarify that the quote you share here is no longer accurate. The energy consumption has been reduced 99.98% due to a network upgraded that was made last year. Putting that in perspective, you're likely to use more energy while using a streaming service (youtube, netflix...etc) than trading nfts on etherium.

Safe to say that people make wild assumptions about what BOC would and wouldn't do based on statements or albums they made 10+ years ago. Truth is, people change.

Cheers for the clarification chap. I find it sad but ever so fascinating that YouTube and internet services singled out create more carbon emissions, that is not surprising but nethertheless they should find ways to cut it down. Over a period of time, the mathmatics for calculating how much damage the web does to the environment must be almost unfathomable. Mind boggling.

I don't know if the method of storing or trading NFTs (music specifically) is more or less damaging than the ownable .png chimps from the start of this craze. I just don't like the concept full stop.

Questionable/unknown/startup music NFT platforms are notorious for trying to 'mint' (make into an NFT) previously released music without the explicit permission of artists. Several platforms have already been shut down over this. Considering the more than questionable description there (influenced AFX.... since when?), I'd say this is just more of that nonsense. And ya, definitely does sound like ChatGPT talking out its arse. It's really easy to mint existing music (or any other digital art for that matter) and attempt to profit from it by making it seem official. Like file-sharing, except for profit and potentially way more anonymous. Seems mega shady here.

That said, I know some legit NFT artists who do well from all of this, but they are constantly fighting against fakes and duplicate thief uploaders themselves. It's the new wild west of the internet all around really, but with highly volatile ponzi-scheme style international cryptocurrencies involved.

Boc love physical formats obviously, especially vinyl, and I can't really see them doing all of this in purely digital releases. My two cents on all this there, being familiar with NFTs and the crypto scene. Sounds shady to me.

Coindesk is one of the more established crypto/blockchain news sources, so I'd say the article is accurate.

It's weird because most of the site features relatively unknown artists, and there are plenty of them trying out music NFTs rather than traditional models. And I can imagine someone like Cerrone, who's heavily promoted on the homepage, trying out a new concept.

But BoC? Nah, don't see it at all, and their 'profile page' is very weirdly put together.

There is no way this is real. Would be nice to have it checked by MDG

I like how they cited Aquarius while it's not that "ambient".
