Heads up AFX fans, looks like there's new music on the horizon.

He's currently playing a few gigs, and there is an app where you point at a QR code cube (at the venues) and some graphics appear on your phone screen (augmented reality). People found code on this (base64 encoded) and found some information about something called "Blackbox Life Recorder 21f" and a date (June 21 2023), maybe that could be an EP or new track. Also there was a link to a Google Drive folder (empty for now) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... uZJHYJph_1

Also this: https://i.redd.it/wg29nk65pd6b1.jpg

An exclusive vinyl on the merch stand (Barcelona).

love the new track. it took me a little bit to really get it but it's strangely very addicting. there's also an ambient mix in the google drive folder that was hidden in the app that i like a little bit better.

I really like the atmosphere of the new track, especially how simple yet compelling the synth melody is.

From the sound of the track I can say this probably will be my favourite Aphex Twin release since Syro.

Syro felt a little forced and this black box track feels very natural, on par with the tracks like in “I care because you do”

Maybe he needed the time to warm up, because it feels genius. Every fan of electronic music appreciates when the track sounds different every time you play it. And it has that never ending quality, similar to his first albums

Very happy that Richard is releasing music again. Bit of a shame it's only a 15 minute EP, but I'm hoping more of these limited 12"s pop up at his shows so we'll end up with an albums' worth of material by the end of the summer. The Barca release is sounding sick!

On Blackbox Life Recorder 21F, why did he change the drums at the 1:04 mark? Those intro hits were so good!

Not trying to be rude but that's like asking why Aphex Twin's music has drums that are all over the place and crazy. He's constantly switching up rhythms and has rapid dynamics in most of Aphex Twin's music

Ouch that is so expensive for the vinyl copy. I guess fair for all the free tunes on Soundcloud though --

This 3D cube foldout -- will this work with a qr code thing for an aug reality animation to look at?

All good my friend, it’s just I thoroughly enjoyed those intro drums so the change caught me off guard. Maybe I’ve been listening to in a beautiful place out in the country too often lately. Notice how Mike simply built those drums by adding layers instead of completely changing everything? Had Aphex done that on this track I think it would be stronger. In the mid to late 90s/early 2000’s there was a minimal movement in electronic music that is missing today. Example Jetone, God those days were so good because you could just dance to the same drums while letting the top instruments play all the changes.

I see what you mean, I also love minimalist rhythmic stuff. That's what I like about Richard's Polygon Window release Surfing on Sine Waves. And I totally agree about IABPOITC, I really dig how the drum layers slowly build on top of each other. Also I'll peep Jetone, I haven't heard of them

Just got this from my local record store on wax -- very nice kind of back to basics vibe. Dorky release, mine was not completely silent some static but maybe that will be gone on a second spin. Thanks Aphex. The foldy cover is kind of confusing I am still wondering if it does anything

"in a room7 F760" is by far the highlight of this release, IMO.

Absolute whopper of a tune.
