That aside, they've been missing since Sunday. Coast Guard is kinda hoping that the sub will be floating at the surface just bobbing along, but quote, 'it'll be a different problem if otherwise'. Last time they pinged was pretty much at Titanic depths, so... we will see on that one I suppose.
I hope they're okay. I think that Island Storm really fucked them over. Kinda hilariously enough, this wasn't their first voyage. I wonder what went wrong this time?

Yeah, interesting tho, as I just find out there are seven different mechanisms to ascend to the surface, including the one in the case the crew is unconscious.

The problem is the lock of the sub entrance is on other side, so even if they are floating on the surface, they can’t get out by themselves.

So presumably this is the hours the crew may run out of the oxygen. I'm really shocked that rescue crew can't do much here only listen, as for my understanding it is not possible to have an image so deep. As they hear the sound coming from below the search area.

To the steeldancer, presumably the electronics went off, so probably even the airbaloon system could not ascendt sub on the surafce.

1. So they either floating below on some depth
2. They are sitting on the ocean floor

This is a dreadful case, from both sides, of 'we weren't technologically there yet'. Horrible!!! We may dominate the earth and sky (for now), but the sea remains a shifty companion. Never put your eggs all in one basket.

A morbid thought, but a (naïve) part of me hopes they'll at least try and recover it still. They're talking robots and whatnot, regardless of the outcome it would be a great opportunity to SAFELY do rescue/research.

Do you believe that it ruptured arvy? 6000 per sq/ft is fine and all, but how about at the ocean floor?

And those people are extraordinary, instead of sitting, they choose to go for extraordinary thrills and seems like their demise was extraordinary. Explorers and pioneers.

Tragic, but actually a fairly prosaic and familiar tale of 'entrepreneur' hubris.

The idea that they were trapped underwater with limited oxygen was always a very long shot and a media narrative inspired more by Hollywood scenarios than actual probability, which was that there was a mechanical failure that caused the sub to implode under the intense pressure. I thought it was pretty convenient how they found the debris right after the "oxygen counters" ran out. Did they just want to keep the story in the limelight longer? Who knows the reasoning.

The only one I feel bad for was the 19 year old who didn't want to go on the trip but went to please his father.

For the record, it is. I remember bring truly disgusted by people's reactions at the time, one of the more 'revealing' times in recent, modern history.

Interesting thread to come back to after all this time. Knowing the outcome now, but seeing it unfold back then. Whew.
Truly one of God's examples.

Thinking it was a dumb thing to spend money on? Sure.
Being mad that the son was basically forced to get in the thing? Sure.
Laughing at the prospect of getting into a sub controlled by an Xbox controller? Yeah.

But, no, I also never liked that there was some sort of...celebration of their demise.
