I thought this would interest you lads.

Spoiler: show
New twoism members boost soon?
But in all seriousness it's sad seeing it die. Big part of idm history innit.

Not just IDM history, but a piece of internet history itself. I mean, how many thriving, or still-kicking, forums are still out there anymore? I never paid much mind to WATMM since I've been on Twoism since the beginning (of my frequent internet usage, that is), but it's sad to see another one go the way of my old stomping grounds, the SHC forums.

Joyrex is just not up to scratch anymore. It's okay, he had been running it 25 years!!!!
This is disappointing for all the WATMM members who love the site, pay for it, read it/lurk, or have done all of the above in the past and still pop in now and again to check up. People who contribute so so dearly. He speaks of the problems of passing the reins over and all the aspects and accounts that includes in a potential transition, but it's still a surreal sight seeing it go (and I'm observing there are already a few threads discussing fundraisers and it's demise.) Crikey.

For all the rivalry between twoism and WATMM which was pretty insignificant at the best of times, I echo rodox's sentiments that this is basically a big nail in the coffin for the electronic music community based around Warp Records, and for the decline of traditional forums more widely. :(

Imagine all the knowledge that goes dark soon. And I’m not confident in Archive having a complete copy of it all. I hope he changes mind and leaves his site to a third party.

I really hope Twoism doesn’t shut down one day too. Considering that it seems their connections (and maybe even them) frequent and communicate here, this place is too sacred!

I actually hope you come to The Playground more often, considering this is your first post ever in this subforum and your first post ever outside of the General New Release Speculation Topic. Twoism.org WILL survive, but you can all solidify that by giving it ALL some love from time to time.

Sad to see them go, but the vibe on that forum was always a bit off. Lots of pretentiousness imho.

yeah. the people there, especially the older members always seemed a bit weird. like giving a holier-than-thou type vibe, idk
only ever made 1 post on that site. indeed kinda sad to see them go though
but twoism on the other hand..... it would devastate me to see this site shut down :(

I will do my best to branch out more. I do appreciate this forum and the fellow BoCers.

Someone should HTTrack it before it goes dark, and post it on several mirror hosting servers to ensure its properly preserved.

Once you get into WATMM you realise the ornery exterior is just for show, great people on there. I haven't found anywhere else like it. Twoism at its peak was wonderful and absolutely formative for me but it has slowed to a crawl.
What we need is for Mike to finish with the hihats already and put out the new record! Save these online communities!

Sad to see. Internet forums are slowly disappearing and that feels like a really regressive development for communities outside of the 'Big Tech' platforms. Makes places like Twoism more important than ever.

I don't feel like the communities in the 'big' platforms are growing that much either. Whole lotta stagnation.

Sad news. As others have said, WATMM is synonymous with IDM, so this truly is the end of an era.

I totally get this. There must be some level of fatigue in running a website for quarter of a century, and no doubt some passion will inevitably diminish over that length of time, but his complete and utter unwillingness to hand the torch over is bullshit. Ultimately, it's his website, but not his community.

Yeah, there is some of that, but I think it's unavoidable on most forums. I've seen much worse over the years. At the end of the day, it's a website centred around discussion of a niche music genre. Of course it's going to attract some sour individuals and gatekeepers. There still seems to be plenty of good folk over there!

Not that I'm a fan of deadmau5 but this (perhaps a bit too facile) stab at snarky and elitist music forum dwellers works pretty well for WATMM.

Maybe another takeaway would be that apparently this phenomenon doesn't just exist for idm...

The way I see it, the whole "edgy" internet culture has run its course anyway and should be passé by now. The need to indulge in reckless degeneracy, childish retorts and psychopathic toxicity had probably been bubbling under within the collective subconscious for decades, if not centuries until the internet finally provided convenient outlets for this, spearheaded by sites like 4chan. Not that WATMM is "degenerate" but they've been echoing similar attitudes. I could see how this has been a necessary development so that we can purge ourselves collectively of such dysfunctional and damaging tendencies.

I never understood the Benn Jordan ridicule for example. If you think his music is cheesy, that's ok but why be a prick about it? The guy actually stopped making gear reviews on YouTube because the community was so toxic towards him. Musicians tend to be sensitive people so persistent negativity and discouragement can be particularly disheartening
