Hey everyone,

I think its time to make this thread? I think we can all safely assume that in the next few months we will finally be listening to the mythical LP5. I am hoping there is Magic Window 2 on there obviously.

So, anyway, I thought I'd make this thread so we could discuss how we are going to listen to it. Maybe some headphone/hardware recommendations for the best listen? Are you planning anything?

I am debating if to listen to it on my Hi-FI set up first or with my headphones...

Also, will you check out any of the singles that drop? I think it'll be like TH where we will have a couple. Last time, I did not check out "Reach For The Dead" until the full album was out. I do not like spoilers!

This was where I listened to TH for the first time, on an iPod with earbuds, shortly after graduating high school while at the lake was some friends. I tried to capture the moment with a disposable camera but it turn out how I had hoped it would

So I will likely try to listen in the same way, in the same place if possible. The past inside the present...

Some other favorite memories from that trip in 2013. I'm getting a bit sentimental over here

Very true. But even if its just the BOC Set. I would still probably pick up some better headphones. I have the Sennheiser momentum 4's right now and I am wondering if I can do better...

Hah as much as id like to wait for the full album release, i dont know if id be able to help myself from listening to a single.

The last album I sat in my big egg chair under a velux window with air blowing in, headphones on, drifting away. I could do the same again, or out in the garden, but I'm tempted to trek up to Curbar Edge and listen to it for the first time in nature.

I actually waited until my birthday in September, went to the woods alone and listened to it for the first time while staring at the stars. Slept in a hammock too afterwards like a proper BoC head

It was Friday the 13th, too in 2013. I turned 20 years old. The track was worth the wait and this "ritual" of mine, it was ridiculous really how well it fit the occasion. Made me tear up

Here's a photo I took that night. You can see my bike and gear. Not really a good composition and when I returned I tried to edit it to look moody like some twat. Never had anywhere to post it so maybe this thread works (I did take better pics too but don't have access, for some reason I had put only this in my Dropbox)

I don't think I'll have the willpower to completely avoid pre-release singles (if there are any) but I will certainly try to limit replays. Hopefully only one or two listens for me.

As for the full album, I think outdoors on headphones will serve me well for a first listen. Location TBC.

The only thing I'm scared of when it comes to LP5 or the Bocset or whatever it may be is purely that it would be underwhelming. That's not to say I expect it to be bad, in fact I imagine it will be amazing, nor that I won't be excited to listen to new material, but rather that 12/13 years of anticipation is very difficult to live up to hype, even if the product is very good. It kind of reminds me of how Ben Gibbard of the supergroup The Postal Service mentioned in an interview that one of the reasons they couldn't make a second album was do to the fact that it had been 20 years since their first album and that the stakes were too high. Maybe I'll love it immediately or maybe I'll love it a week or two after the fact, regardless I'm glad things are happening and we're probably getting new music in the first place.

Tbf BOC does seem like one of those bands that sounds amazing on drugs. The only problem would be that if I would want it to sound good again, I would have to be on drugs again/j

I'm going to wait and see what the aesthetics are like. But if the tapes are any indication, maybe alone in a dark room with the blinds closed. Which would be great because that is my modus operandi.

some'times, hearing an album in an 'altered' state henceforth affects my experience of that album, regardless of my state'of being during future listens.

Yeah honestly my thinking is... new BoC? Who in their right mind would get high to listen to that when that's one of the most foolproof methods to get a sober psychedelic experience.

Not necessarily a fan of the word "psychedelic" there though but idk what else to call it

That's about right for me.

Alternatively, if I can, I will be seeking out a special spot I found not far from where I live. It's a small section of woods with a path cleared through alongside a river. Along the path there is a small spot cleared of trees between the path and the river. The spot contains actual wooden church pews lined up, facing the river. There is a plaque next to it talking about the historical significance of this "outdoor church". Judging by the nature of this new material in the VHS tapes... might enhance the listening experience, eh.

How about we all travel to an abandoned church with some portable speakers and lie down on the floor in the shape of a hexagram to listen to it. When we know the track durations it's easy to set up the timed ignition to ensure successful mass liberation at the end of the ceremony. May I suggest a location with plenty of vegetation so that the fire will spread easily...
