This is insane and disgusting but it confirms that the world is going to hell (inferno).

Many people don't realize or remember that Boards of Canada was very popular on /b/ in the early days 4chan. The events of GamerGate and the last two decades of identity politics in film and media resulted in many of 4chan's users growing up and into positions of power. Whether you agree with the politics or not, you shouldn't be surprised in the slightest.

In the context of the album theming tho, this feels like a childish provocation

Those events didn't result in people reaching positions of power. People merely grew up online as they were taking place. And the only reason they have secured notable roles is because the Trump admin is consistently aligned to - and in many respects led by - the internet's malignant underbelly.
