Between The Chemical Brothers and the Crystal Method, I found my love in electronic music. They got me started and I'll just say that the new Chemical Brothers is pretty sweet.

You know, if you like that "big" sound.

Daft-punk was what got me into electronic music,especially the song Voyager and that synthline in the middle of Aerodynamic. Also kraftwerk, something my dad used to play in the car .
From that I listened to alot of french funk. Alan Braxe and stuff. I still love those bass-lines.
From French funk to Drum and bass, from Drum and Bass to Aphex and from Aphex to most I know.
Some other things just come out of the blue, like cocteau twins,but most of the time it slowly evolves into more crazy and abstract sounds. Its even gotten so far that I like the sound of falling screws and copying-machines. I like the vibrating sound of washing-machines aswell...but that could be just a hint of auttism

As for Chemical Brothers. I used to like them, untill Push t3h button...that sucked imo

I guess my first exposure to electronic music was watching Dr. Who with my dad. PBS plays BBC shows late at night, and my dad and I used to stay up on saturday nights when I was a kid and watch Dr. Who and Red Dwarf and Black Adder and some of those shows.

But my dad got really interested in synthesizers too (which back then weren't as economically viable for the average consumer as they are now). He used to buy CDs from people like Shadowfax, Dave Gruisin, Enya, Spyra Gyra, and other groups like that (most of which I really don't listen to now, except for occasionaly nostalgia). That sort of got me introduced to the aesthetic.

In the late 90's I bought Daft Punk's Homework (which I actually didn't like at the time and sold if you can believe it), and later the Chemical Brother's "Dig Your Own Hole" and The Prodigy's "Fat of the Land." That introduced me to the industrial and big beat side of things, along with my occasional exposure to NIN.

My senior year of high school I was introduced to Unkle, and then to DJ Shadow, and then to DJ Food, and then to Amon Tobin, and from thence into total Ninja Tune madness (a madness I wish that label would produce now-a-days).

Then one day I noticed that CDNOW (do you remember that?) kept insisting that based on my purchase history I would like a group called Boards of Canada. I checked it out, but only Aquarius caught my ear, but in sort of a novelty way, so I didn't think much about it.

But I kept trying and eventually fell in love with Pete Standing Alone and EYDIAB. I bought MHTRTC and thought I had a dud a first (I've found that my kneejerk reaction with music is generally wrong) until I heard Roygbiv and the rest of that story is history.

Around the same time I found Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92, which was, is, and I think always will be one of my VERY favorite records.

A few years after that I found Twoism, and discovered Autechre, Squarepusher, Bibio, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Proem, Helios, Odd Nosdam, Chris Clark (aka Clark), ediT, Vashti Bunyan, Red House Painters, Tangerine Dream, Ciaran Byrne, etc. etc. etc.

I actually owe a great deal of the music I like now-a-days to the recommendations of Aesthetics alone, not to mention all of the fine folks on the board.

And here I am now. And this was a LONG post.

I actually originally liked just general alt rock, I listened to the Australian alternative radio station when I was about 8-10. My first CD ever bought was Gorillaz's S/T. Then we got a computer, and I got a portable radio and sat it next to the computer so I always heard it. It was always on, in the morning, afternoon and all through out the night. On Sundays, there's a program devoted to IDM, frequently plays Squarepusher, Ae, Aphex, BoC etc. I got my first taste of IDM through that.

I then got an interest in David Firth's cartoons, and I liked the music behind it. I followed the link on the Music page to the BoC page. I then listened to the music, and liking it, I went to the Warp homepage. Back then, the listening samples were still on Warp, and not on Bleep. When I found Bleep, I bought Campfire Headphase when it came out (digitally), and after that I bought a bunch of others, as well. By that time I was already a part of a site called GameFAQs, and they have an alternative board there. That's where I got, and still get, most of my other musical reccomendations like post-rock and indie rock. I got here because I saw the link at the bottom of the wiki page.

i had borrowed a lot of music from my older brother who kinda grew up threw the 90s and saw a lot of the dance, house and electronic music as it was coming out....

initially i was borrowing cds like massive attack, prodigy, daft punk, chemical brothers, propellerheads and just stuff like that...but eventually lately he has turned me onto dntel and ulrich schnauss and aphex twin

I liked Technotronic when I was 5. XD

i dunno.. i suppose my big brothers dance music magazines w/free mixtapes? or maybe ninja tune/amon tobin type stuff. i really dont rememeber to be honest.

I don't know...I've always had eclectic tastes in music. I literally listen to all genres and enjoy them. Music is my life and my anti-drug.

Kind of evolved out of my taste for indie electronic stuff that i had always had, Komeda, stereolab, ect. I used to use AllMusic.com to look for artists, thats where I found BoC, then through them discovered isan, dntel, aphex ect.

Haha, that's crazy. That's almost the exact same trajectory I took. Daft Punk and even Fatboy Slim, were the first artists I started buying, but DJ Shadow is pretty sweet, although his latest is, and he's mentioned it himself, a departure from his "Endtroducing" days (which I'm still quite fond of).

I hardly listen to any of the artists that originally got me started in electronic music. Daft, Chem's, Fatboy, et al, were so associated with my teenage years that now I've grown to more, dare I say, "adult" tastes. I don't consider Boards of Canada adult, but you know what I mean? Those original artists were the people I'd listen to get psyched before a soccer game or something. Boards, I suppose became more influential when I hung up the boots and broke out the bong. I'm more inclined to listen to music that riles my thoughts rather than my body.

Although, the one interesting bit is my father. A classic rock fan in his day, he eventually became enthralled with the Blues, however, his tastes have finally come around to my side of the music globe. He's the one that sends me burned copies of NIN, and I'm sure he'll pick up the new Chem's (And yes, I agree, I didn't think Push the Button was fantastic, but The Boxer is a pretty great song).

Mine began with Chemical Brothers. "Come With Us" was the first electronic cd that I really connected with. From there I found Aphex Twin and then all the other IDM bands.

I think I really started out with a john digweed track called "Breeder Tyrantanic." (I'm sorry) It came with my brand new imac, it was a sample tune on itunes.

I just got into that progressive house feel, and transitioned into (in order) Shpongle, Daft Punk, BoC, and Aphex....then everything else...

psychic TV, yello, art of noise, soft cell, early 80s television, 8-bit nintendo (maybe even intellivision?)...

i think originally what got me into electronic music was driving to high school with in my brother's car, having Happy Hardcore forced on my ears every morning for 2 straight years, full blast.

i am one of those people who goes through lots of heavy "phases" and for a while I thought i was going to be a raver when i grew up so i dressed in crazy colorful baggy clothing all the time and listened to nothing but techno

then i went into i guess a goth phase and listened to nothing but industrial.

i was into all kinds of electronic music at this point but it all came together after i'd been listening to Ohgr and Skinny Puppy and learned that Cevin Key had a sideproject called Download doing some kind of music called "IDM" so I listened to that and loved it. It was around that time that i tried to find anything and everything relating to IDM and Boards of Canada came up. I actually found BoC through Salad Fingers cartoons, though I didn't buy Geogaddi first, i went for MHtRtC because that album was -calling- for me to experience it.
