Another genre thread by thedisavowed.

I don't know if this is going to overlap with shoegaze too much, but I've found myself listening to Cocteau Twins' "Heaven or Las Vegas" a lot lately, and I'm curious if people around here have

a) More Cocteau recommendations
b) More Dream Pop recommendations

Post away.

Edit: I'm familiar with Ulrich Schnauss as well.

i only know of the first Cocteau twins album garlands which is real good...although i have no sense of any of their other work

Yeah, Garlands is brilliant. My fav so far. It's almost more post punk/ goth than dream pop though. Another great band is For Against. They also started off post punk/ dark wave but slowly went dream pop.

Only have a few other random Cocteau Twins songs, what is their most similar stuff to this song?

Dreampop always meant AR Kane to me. They had a Robin Guthrie produced EP on 4AD, 'Lolita', but the following records on Rough Trade were even better.

'Up!' EP
'i' album

Quite a strong dub influence, particularly on the 'Up!' EP (one of my favourite ever records). Rudi of AR Kane also started a short-lived label H.ark. The bands Papa Sprain and Butterfly Child were on there, and both did a couple of fantastic dreampop EPs.

Hitting a sort of dreampop / rock crossover was the band Kitchens of Distinction. Great songs and a huge oceanic guitar sound. Check out the albums 'Strange Free World' and 'The Death of Cool'.

The Moon and Melody's is my fave Cocteau Twins Album

Sarah records was supposedly THE label for dream pop back then; i've yet to check out more from that label other than Secret Shine, but i highly recommend them!

I've recently been listening to Cocteau Twins, and it's amazing... Treasure is such a good album.

Pandora makes me feel like I wanna cry... ;_;

Elizabeth Fraser is such an amazing vocalist. I can only understand what she's saying about 1/3 of the time but it's still great. And that AR Kane recsounds cool, I'll have to check that out.
