MASS EFFECT. it has a really cool ambient, synth-driven soundtrack! and the whole look of the game is very retro futuristic, almost like a really slick version of what's on the cover of twoism. and the the studio that made the game was from canada... go figure. its by bioware, the guys that made baldur's gate and knights of the old republic... so its a sort of action rpg. im loving it so far.

The soundtrack definitely was what struck me the most. I only played about 30 minutes, but man it was fun. I sucker punched that Dr. Manuel in the gut.

I'm giving serious consideration to nabbing a 360 in the january sales. I don't normally buy consoles but there's so many good games on that platform

mass effect, bioshock, assassins creed, and half life two orange box (with portal!!) all make the system worth it in my opinion.
then of course theres halo 3 and gears of war.
so many of those games are shooters...!

It's awesome.
Mind-bogglingly massive world to explore.
Don't know if it will top Oblivion though.

Does it have free-roam like Oblivion, where you can pretty much do whatever you want and go wherever from the start, or does it matter what "quest" your on?

After all the buzz I heard surrounding this game, damn, I was left cold after seeing its most recent tv spot--I almost laughed at how poorly the commercial presented the game.
I'm still really excited to try it out, though, too bad I don't have the time right now in my life to get a next-gen system.

it is free roaming just like oblivion. but i would say that the main quest is a lot better than oblivion's.
also, there seem to be some ok videos on youtube and stuff but its hard to really get a good idea of what the game is unless its played. think starwars: knights of the old republic role playing + ghost recon tactics + retro-futuristic art style.
but i have to say, after having it for two weeks now, the empasis is highly on the RPG aspects. the shooting combat is somewhat strange, and you can tell it isnt made by a company that makes shooters. but if you treat it as an rpg, you will love it.
