Apocalypse 2012

is anyone familiar with the ideas associated with the 2012th year?
examples- "end" of the world, vernadsky's noosphere, global consciousness, etc. supposedly, the exact date is december 21st, 2012. something is supposed to go down, we dont really know what, but earths magnetism is supposed to reverse, and its the end of the mayan long-count calendar's thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle, which means it's 13.0.0.0.0 starting point will repeat for the first time in the past 5,125 years. heh, 5+1+2+5=13, thats funny. this alignment means something, apparently, and id state my affirmations, but i want to hear what you guys think first.
by the way, apocalypse literally means "a revealing or uncovering" so i dont want anyone to take that by its literal meaning. ive heard people say that everything will die and end within that year, and to be honest, it always bothers me when people insist on this.

I don't believe in all these predictions.

what Aesthetics said. mostly because i don't think important events correlate with our years in any special way. i mean what about the chinese, and the jewish calendar? there's nothing special going on numerically for either of them on that date. *shrug*

Yeh, I've read into this 2012 thing, and all I want is a new BoC album before then.

During the 90's i was mad into Atlantis, Lemuria Egypt and Mayans etc. remember reading somewhere that mayans where so far advanced technology that before some other disaster happened they where so evolved and some left earth, and when 2012 comes round that they will return and help us leave or stop something from happening!
weird because i was meaning to start a topic on this aswell lol.
must read up on all this again because no douth the general media will grab hold of this very soon....
EDIT: also this might just be in Ireland, but the Government here and Councils have made a lot of promises for things to be made or changes etc for 2012, which makes me think that governments are aware of this date, just keep an eye out for your area and see if this date comes up a lot for things like that.
PS. LOVE THIS SHIT!

well Y2K was an idea dreampt up by us in the nineties, and the 2012 theories have existed for thousands of years, so i have a bit more faith in something happening in 2012 than i would have in 99, had i not been in seconds grade and had i known what was going on. my belief is that the closer we are to that date, the more evident its events will become. for now, i have no idea what its going to be, but ill definately have my eyes open.

not to dick up this thread or anything but to be honest, in a way it worries me that there are people out there who really believe these things and act upon them. it makes me feel i've misplaced my already-meager faith in humanity to think analytically rather than superstitiously and in many ways this type of thing seems to prove to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, only bolstering peoples' faith in it.

This may be an interesting read for those of you interested in 2012. Or really anyone for that matter.

The age of Aquarius is supposed to begin around 2400-2600... But perhaps an exception will be made for 2012.
All I know is, I'm going to make my life as meaningful as possible before that date. And if nothing major happens, I'll have a good laugh.

All I know for sure is I'm going to be sure to be heavily dosed on a psychedelic on December 21st, 2012.
I think with the way things are currently going there is a definite possibility of some sort of significant change happening around that date but I'm not going to pretend to know what that is.
I'd go a little further in depth but I need to go to stupid work.

if anyone wants to read an extensive and extremely interesting book on 2012, get 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, by Daniel Pinchbeck. He did a lot of experimentation with lsd and peyote, as well as multiple different shamanic rituals with several interesting groups, or tribes, what have you. the book is what he gathered from his experiments in correlation to 2012. its quite incredible.

I think a lot of people look at the specific date of 2012 rather than the time from now leading up to that date/year, which leads people to think that on that specific day something big will happen. I think if anything, it will be a process or change that slowly happens as we approach that date, and I don't expect it to be armageddon. Just look at the situation the world is in now, and either way you look at it, there can easily be a very bad outcome or a complete turnaround of where we are now. It's not like something happening in 2012 would be such a great shock, considering how many bad things are happening right now. We're on the verge of hitting rock bottom, and the two outcomes I can see are complete chaos or full awakening. I'm excited .
