Recreational Drug Use, BoC, and Stereotypes
I'am a moderate cannabis user. Normally I consume about 7 Grams every three weeks. I believe that it is one of the safest drugs available and not nearly as harmful as what is legally distributed. I do not believe prohibition has been an effective measurement in reducing useage, since clearly those who want to do it still do regardless of the law. The Netherlands soft drug policy has proven statistically that the number of users while spiking lightly within the first 6 months or so after integration, since the numbers of users have dropped back to the norm. I think that people should have the option to alter themselves with cannabis rather then alcohol.
Too many people tend to stereo-type users as burnt-out, shells of people with no goals or future, no memory, and an un-intelligible disposition.
Many don't realize that there are many closet smokers who match this profile in no way, responsible users who know that moderation is key. I count myself among them.
I was curious as to how many other users are cannabis users or have had experiences with this or other physcadelics (LSD, Mushrooms, Etc.)
Also what people's opinion's are on useage.
I hope this won't begin an arguement and I'd like to remind those posting to be open to others opinion's and expressive their thoughts with as little bias and flaming as possible.
Cannabis, Campfires, and BoC seem to just go well together with me. Though as quoted by BoC " I don't believe drugs should be neccessary to enjoy music." and I love BoC sober or not.

Well, I'm also among that group, the "closet" cannabis smokers... I do it, probably 2/3 as much as you, maybe a little more, and maintain perfect control over it, I've had times where I feel that drug use is probably not too appropriate, and have easily stopped for however long I have to, talking months and months, even years if needed. Never gone over my limits, in fact I am constantly using erowid.org to my advantage to learn new things about psychedelics... there almost daily.
I do intend to try other drugs at some point, but not before I have read up, taken every precaution, and most importantly, feel completely ready
Also I am ruling many drugs out... ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, and many others, I'd probably only try shrooms, peyote (but I assume that I will never get the chance in this lifetime) and maaayybbeeee acid. If I feel ready, no point forcing yourself, any drugs I take into my system I show top respect to.
On the topic of BoC... I LOVE their music sober and high... just overall great stuff!!! Sometimes while high though, I see new ways of looking at songs, or notice things that I hadn't previously, so it's always an interesting experience, drug use is not needed to enjoy music, but let's face it, it certainly doesn't hurt

Me too, I've learned much from erowid. Very informative, provides pure factual information without bias.

I agree, I enjoy BoC sober or high and I don't want to promote the image of BoC being a "stoner" band whom only create music for drugged out people. And while some may consider myself in that latter category I believe that BoC's music is incredible with or without drugs, it's just two different way's to experience the same greatness.
I hope that I'm not projected that vibe and that users aren't looking at this topic and rolling their eye's dismissing it because of their natural associations with people whom use illegal substances. However I feel this won't be the case as it seems that many users here are open minded about the subject and lax on soft drugs.
Anyone else on the board care to share their opinion on the subject?
((( Also I think that this topic could be in the general chat area rather then the BoC page, if anyone thinks it should be moved move it. )))

my...natural "discovery" of a deeper consiousness, my intense passion for experimental sound, my undying love of boc, and my realization of the power of mind alteration through substance use all wraped around eachother quite nicely a few years back...."drugs" are obviously and definitely not for everyone...of course anyone can use them and anyone can feel 'fucked up' on them, but it truely takes a matured mind to reap all of the infinite benefits they can offer the human mind. as far as from what ive experienced thus far in life, some people "connect" with drugs, some dont. the complexities of the mind stretch over infinite horizons, and with certain drugs one is offered the ability to temporarily broaden the scope of the mental "playing field", thus coming back "to earth" with an experience not unlike a vaction or any other experience, except the vaction spot happens to be the inner workings of the individual's concious and subconcious mind.
of course, any person thats had any sort of "experience" would agree that it's impossible to even try and begin to describe anything related to temporary mind alteration, so the best one could say is check out unbiased info(erowid is great), and most of all KNOW AND RESPECT YOURSELF.
p.s.- when i speak of "drugs" in the above thought i mean to include mainly the psychadelics (bud; psilocybin mushrooms; lsd; etc..)

I agree, some people simply cannot maintain themselves and use certain substances. Many people have addictive personalities or try and self-medicate as well.
I'm glad that there are some mature, well-spoken cannabis users here.

I have always felt that there was a music within the music when listening while under the influence of liesure drugs. I used to be a heavy user of many different drugs. Heavy in that whatever I could get my hands on at the time. Regulars where cannibus(of course) I would smoke a quarter a day if I could, crystal meth(this stuff flowed thru my town like an on going river, acid(some of my best memories and experiences), cocain(not to the point of addiction)but great for skateboarding, and ecstasy my absolute favourite. There have been others used but only once. Listening to music was my most favourite thing to do when using any of these drugs. I would sit for hours whether on my own or with other people and just let the music absorbe into my brain. I would meditate on it later and get high and listen again. I listened to alot of, at the time, underground rave music, I also listened to metal. I was very irrisponsible and careless in those days. But I took alot away from the aprox 3 years of use. Positive and Negative. I remember going to a Deftones concert on E and meth, I was the happiest guy there. Talking to everyone, I mean eveyone. Then after the concert I took 2 homeless people out for dinner because they were begging for money. I was driving through Downtown Toronto on E and meth and ran several light because I was so involved in talking to these homeless people sitting in the back seat of my car. Even when I think back to that it still scares me. I was an idiot that nite. That was a negitive. The driving part anyways.
I no longer use any drugs, no not even marijuana. In fact I hardly even drink booze anymore either. But my way of thinking and my thought process has been changed forever. I have a different outlook on things in life than just about everybody I know.
Sometimes this is good and sometimes its bad. Its hard to tell your friends to think for themselves. Its hard to explain for me, but I just dont look or think of things the way that I used to.
Theres times I wish I never touched drugs, but then theres times that im glad I did. But my expieriance with music will always have been positive. I still love music and I still look for the music inside of the music. This may sound dumb to some but im sure that others have gone this raod. I am happy to be alive and I am not suffering today for what I did in the past wich I as well am thankfull for.
I was a bad example for drug users whom do it responsibly. And I do apoligize to everyone for that.

I was going to avoid this topic completely, but chaos inspired me to post cause I went through a similar experience. I have been through hell and back with drugs (mainly heroin) but I've been clean for about 3 years now. I keep it strickly to alcohol on the weekends now and I have'nt had a problem doing that so far. I was basically a garbage can for drugs for 5 years, any mood altering substance I could jam into my body, I did it. (including crack, heroin, crysal meth, acid, E, and coke) I was'nt your sterotypical drug user. I had a happy upbringing, and I was'nt poor or abused as a child. I just went down the wrong road and hung out with the wrong people. I'm not ashamed nor do I regret anything I did cause I learned from all my mistakes. And let me tell you, when you're a junkie you don't give a fuck about music. Your whole world is focused on how you'll get your next fix. I started with painkillers (oxycontins, vicodins, percocets) and when that was'nt enough, I started doing Heroin. Yes, I have even stuck a needle in my arm before, but in no way am I trying to brag or advocate what I did was alright. I want to tell my story, mainly for the yourger guys that are on here, cause I don't want anyone to have to go through what I did. After many rehabs, halfway houses, and N.A. meetings I could'nt take it anymore. I robbed people, got beat up, kicked out of my house, and even stole checks from my mother when she was going through breast cancer treatment. Like I said before when you're a junkie you don't give a fuck about anything but the drug, and that was not the person I am. It all came to a screeching halt when I cut my wrists and ended up in the Phych ward. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I consider myself lucky cause I've had friends that have oded and died, ended up in jail, with diseases, or are still living that lifestyle. I can happily say that I did'nt have to deal with any of those consequences. I was on methodone (a synthetic, legal form of heroin) for about 6 months which helped me get my life back on track. With the help of an angel (my ex-girlfriend) I got off methodone which is even harder to kick than heroin. (I was sick for a month straight)
So I know this does'nt have much to with with music, but I wanted to share my story. Now music is one of the most important aspects of my life, and I could'nt live without it. As for smoking a little weed and listening to Boc; I see no problem in that as long as it does'nt lead to harder drugs. Now when I look back it seems like a hazy dream, and a part of my life which I would like to forget. But sometimes it's better to remember, cause one little slip and I'm right back to where I was. Thanks for reading this, Derek

dextromethorphan (DXM/dex) is my drug of choice for music enhancement.. <3 ... i've had many a great time listening to boc on it.
most people look down on this drug though. i dont blame them though... i've had my share of bad experiences with it.
and cannabis is wonderful. i dont do it often anymore so its allways a blast when i do. i find myself thinking how incredible the music is and even after the high is gone i'm left not taking any music for granted for a while... if you know what i mean. i guess it all just helps me to learn to experience things in a new light somehow

Ha ha ha. You just made my day!
I have never tried Salvia, but you can buy it here in the states. I had a friend who did it, and he said it was like a mild acid trip, w/ some mild hallucinations. I just found this great recipe for "magic" brownies. I think I'll try it out, i need to save some $$ first because it requires like 6 grams of the good stuff.
Welcome home faithful one. We forgive you.
