what are other twoism members views on autechre's first album? i think this could quite possibly be my favorite release by them...

perfection from beginning to end

I like the release, but I think it is their weakest. When stacked up against their Tri Rep - Quaristice material it sound a bit naive. I'm glad they moved into more abstract realms. This style was best suited for bands like Bola, or Future Sound of London in my opinion.

You speak for me.

I'm part of the minority of fans for whom Incunabula is not such an important album, for me they were still evolving and finding a style.... besides, it is well known that this is not a proper release, it is a bunch of tracks assembled by Warp.

It has some amazing tracks, no doubt, but Autechre starts to be something special for me with the pre-Tri Repetae EPs: Anti, Garbage and Anvil Vapre.

I'm more Tri Repeatae onwards really ... Amber and Incunabula are nice but sound aged and a bit lacking in parts

i just haven't been able to get into them yet. they just seem to sound so sterile.

Incunabula is very good but obviously amateur. I like Basscadet and Bike the most. It is a very fun listen which is rare coming from AE. And despite sounding contradictory the album tends to drag out towards the middle, imo.

Tri Repetae has to be my favorite it has a similar but more developed and glitchy style. The rest while some is good, I can live without.

I thought Incunabula was a very good album. I like all the tracks on there and Lowride is one of my favourites. At the time of the release I was pretty chuffed because I managed to get the limited edition grey vinyl!!
More or less since after Chiastic Slide I just couldn't get into their music, but it's not for the want of trying. Ive still got the majority of their releases on Warp, It's just too skittery and frenetic for me, but that's just my opinion.

Incunabula will always remain special to me. It was the first Ae album I heard, it was very revolutionary back in the days and isn't comparable to their latest output imo.
I can't really tell if it's my favorite musical wise because it gets a preferential listening treatment. I also got this with Orbital - In sides because it was the first out of the ordinary electronic music album I heard of them and in general, I really like Snivilisation as well but it doesn't have this newish touch.

After Incunabula I enjoyed every album almost instantaneously until EP7, from that release on I needed a few listens to get into their new stuff and it get's worse with each release.

Brown album for me when it comes to Orbital, turned my world upside down and Impact, The Earth Is Burning still makes me shiver

2nd least favorite autechre album. Still great though.

Gave this a thorough listen last night. for the first time in a while. the only song i dont really like that much is basscadet, but its still pretty good. so many classic tunes though. bike, windwind, maetl, autichre... doctrine might be my favorite from the album. i used to hate lowride... but i think i get it now. kalpol introl is such an intense opener too. the whole album stands up way better than most of the artificial intelligence series in my opinion. electro-soma, bytes, and ginger are also really great but this just has the coolest vibe to it. it sounds like its from the early nineties but it doesnt really sound "dated" to me. i also really like that you can hear Bola's presence here too.

bike is such a fantastic track. it sounds nothing like autechre! its so bright and futuristic. i picture the game wipeout whenever i hear it.

in my opinion amber and tri repetae sound quite dated as well, but all three hold up. i think for me amber is the weakest of the three, but that still has some awesome songs on it. i think its the brighter vibe on incunabula that appeals to me more.

I do still like their earlier work but I have to really be in the mood to listen to it.

probably like incunabula the most.... nice hip hop vibes to it; not as spasmatic as later releases.

first heard of autechre when I saw Pi, Kalpol Introl's on it. massively good film if you haven't seen it.

Inancubula is a wicked sleeping album, unlike their other albums, unless you are similar to my mate max who listens to slayer to send him to sleep. hehehe

incunabula is definitely my favorite autechre album. But then again, I'm one of those people who are really stuck in the 90s in terms of electronic music. I feel like the music was so much warmer back then...maybe because less computers were involved and electronic artists needed to be more creative in their approach to music. Accelerator and Lifeforms by FSoL, SAW I + II by Aphex, Incunabula by Autechre, Adventures Beyond Ultraworld and U.F. Orb by the Orb, and all of Orbital's early stuff captured the psychedelic and melodic spirit of the times and were all groundbreaking to the degree that they're still among the best albums out there, imo.

Before now Tri Repetae++ was my favorite, and but I think I dig this more.

I think it is too boring, for an Autechre album at least.* Maybe that is because of a lot of the filler tracks that don't seem to develop or do anything interesting. Eggshell and 444 are great, 444 has a nice saw85-92 mood to it. Somebody else said it's a good sleeping album, I have a few of it's tracks on my sleep playlist. Heh.

* The fact that I listen to Untilted the most is probably why I think this. I like Autechre because they tease you with a good tune but after 10 seconds of hearing it the track morphs yet again into something else just leaving you wanting more. Incubala and Amber don't really offer this. (I love them for different reasons though)

Pretty solid album, probably in second place after Chiastic Slide (wow).
I just wanted to say , you guys know in Lowride when the hip hip sample says "its the noise" and theres like a choppy percussion noise going on, that is one of my favorite moments in music.
