It is really amazing that BOC have become so popular with very few interviews, long periods between releases, and absolutely no touring. They have over 115,000 friends on myspace right now. Then you have a band like Mogwai who tours all the time and they show 95,000 fans. just an observation.

i'm yet to meet someone irl who even knows of sandison bros.

I've only met maybe 3 people that know BoC without me telling em about it. But then again I'm in Ontario where IDM and electronica doesn't have a scene really.

well my point is that regardless of that, apparently over 100,000 people are familiar with them.

heh, i got another pic of an owl that I gotta upload from my cell phone. I visited my folks and my father, who is a biologist/ecologist, found out that there are certain barn owls living in Ontario that are extremely rare. First sighting in 30 years kind of rare. Anyways, he got an owl statue mounted on the wall I took a pic of.

I've introduced several of my friends who I felt would appreciate BOC as much as I do. I've encountered many people that know or know of BOC, but usually it's only because a random person on the street sees me wearing a BOC shirt, so they are not really people I personally know...This is probably due to the fact that I go to school in Boston at Northeastern University, which is right next to the world famous Berkley College of Music. I would say that most of those fans on the myspace are people who stumbled upon dayvan cowboy, and that's really the extent of their passion.

I've always wondered how many copies there are in circulation. What also fascinates me are the Last.fm stats.

BoC has way more short songs but despite of that it's ranked way higher than I ever would expect.

I've met two other people have have heard of them. They knew pretty much nothing about BOC though but I was still pretty surprised.

Most people around here know them, but have a couple of their tracks on their players. I'll mention specific things about the band or even ask which album is their favorite, and I get deer in the headlights instantly.

I met a bunch of dudes who know about BoC at my college. I'm rooming with one of them next year.

BoC has been getting very popular in music forums younger kids frequent. And obviously they go tell all their friends etc.

I am really interested in how popular their next release will be.

I've actually had a friend who did not know BOC but overheard me listening to it and recognized it from the Adult Swim bits...

Yea I had somebody say that to me about Squarepusher. I don't own a TV so I had no idea.

We have a shared music directory where I work. I uploaded all my BoC mp3s, and I checked the "date accessed" field, and someone other than me is definitely using them on a regular basis, so there is at least one BoC fan in the same building as me.
don't know any BoC fans personally though.

The MySpace thing is interesting, but for a real fright - go and compare their number of Last.FM plays compared to some "bigger" bands.

nah myspace is a better example.
boc fans are more likely to use last.fm than panic at the disco fans, lets face it.

Yeah, fair point - but it still surprised me just HOW far ahead of certain bands they are.

Just because someone is their friend on myspace doesn't mean they really like them like we do or even half of that. A lot of people on there just want friends, they don't care who it is. But I know what you are saying.

I was going through a Wendy's drive through last week and this kid noticed my boc hoody I was wearing and he says, "Dude! Is that a boards of canada shirt???" I was like yup, sure is! He said, "Man I love those guys, they are so good".

So I guess a lot of people like them enough for me to go to a Wendy's and see a BoC fan.

And I really don't care that so many people are liking them, I used too care a lot, like NO! They are going to be huge now, and write really shitty songs and push out records so they can get off warp and never play again... But it just shows that more and more people are getting into better sounding music, such as BoC.

Ha, I was wearing the same hoody to work one day and someone said the exact same thing. Turns out he's into all kinds of good bands like Freescha, AFX, Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, Luke Vibert. He ended up lending me his Warpvision Compilation dvd which was awesome. He said it was awesome that he met me cuz everyone else just thought he was weird and liked strange retarded music.
