Ok, update - Moodgadget announced on June 9th that my EP is among the upcoming releases they have slated for the near future, so I will let you guys know all about it when I get a set date for the release.

Finally an update! I just got a note from Moodgadget that my Treeborhood EP will be released in about two weeks' time. I'll link to it here when it's released. Stay tuned!

How did I miss this thread the first time...

Sorry for the lack of info here guys, it seemed for a while that my EP had totally dropped off the face of the earth/internet. Moodgadget has apparently been just ridiculously busy lately, and given me a bum release date or two which turned out to be off by weeks and weeks.

But, at the risk of getting everyone's hopes up again (and mine), they have told me that the EP should appear on their site sometime in the next week or two. I'll make another post here when it does, and I'll put a link to it on my Myspace as well.

OK, I just posted this on Discogs. This is literally one of the best things I've heard in a long time. Sorry it took me so long to get into it! Anyway, here's my review:

This is the soundtrack of your childhood, filtered through the eyes of a Sega Genesis. The music brings to mind all kinds of things, from retro-future space explorers, to Sonic the Hedgehog, to station-wagons with power windows.

The Treeborhood EP is literally full of gems: Steel Whirl, Itasca Road Trip, Treeborhood, and Magic Mushroom all contain insanely catchy melodies. It's like he took the idea of Boards of Canada and updated it for us kids that grew up consumed by video games.

For the most part the EP is made up of upbeat tunes consisting of very roygbiv-like synth melodies. I mean this in the best way possible. Boreal Network isn't just a Boards of Canada clone like so many others. While the production techniques are simple in comparison, it is apparent that this guy possesses the same magic that Boards has. Cannot wait to hear what this guy has in store for the future!

PS.
Listen to track five "Treeborhood." When the synth comes in at 2:51 my whole body melts into a puddle of bliss. Moments like this do not happen often...

It was originally my intent to not mention BoC at ll in the review and I want to apologize to Cole for falling on the comparison crutch, but I swear I meant it in a purely positive way. I also cut ramblings about a family trip to Niagra Falls, and playing video games in motel rooms. And Nintendo Power.

Thanks for putting this review up dude! I don't mind the mention of BoC, in fact sometimes it seems almost obligatory or else you feel like you're not even being sincere, like you're going out of your way to avoid mentioning them and you know meanwhile everyone's thinking "where's the BoC link, I can smell it, but nobody's mentioning it...gimmicky!" Anyway I don't feel put off by it because you put it the way I would myself, Boards are obviously a huge inspiration for me but I try not to stay stuck at that moment of inspiration but to pick it up and run with it and take it off in my own direction.

My brother and I used to get Nintendo Power too! Aaaand Gamepro too. I remember a day when skateboards and LamePro were the best things in the world (although no, I've never learned how to ollie)

Is this still available to download/buy? Just listened to a few of the tracks and it sounds very familiar to 'Aviation Weather' which is my favourite Boreal Network album, so desperately need this in my collection.

Interested too. This is the only Boreal Network release I don't have because it appears to be nowhere on the internet right now. Maybe Nicole can re-release it on Bandcamp.

Also, I still have no idea why they stopped offering Treeborhood and the Empire Builder/Steel Whirl single for download. You can buy Empire Builder/Steel Whirl on any skeezy mp3 site on the internet, everywhere from Amazon to iTunes to RussianMP3s.net, and I haven't seen one red cent from any of this. c'est la vie.

Does anyone make any money from established label releases?

Officially my first purchase (of any kind) in 2012.
