I met John at a Third Eye Foundation gig. He was sound. R.I.P

At the risk of hijacking the thread and turning it into a John Peel love-in, I have to agree - Peel was a proper legend. I'll always remember sitting in some god-awful internet cafe in Saigon, checking the headlines from home and reading "John Peel Dead". I actually felt disappointed - almost cheated somehow? I just couldn't take it in.

Half the time on his show I wasn't even really listening - not really listening anyway. Frankly quite a lot of the music he played I couldn't get into at all but just hearing his voice made life seem interesting - he was a true enthusiast of new music. You just knew that he actually genuinely listened to the 1000s of tapes and demos he got sent. He actually gave a shit and loved sharing the new music even if a lot of it was bollocks.

But every once in a while he would play something that demanded you sat up and listened and those times were special. And of course he loved BOC and Mogwai which helped too, and allowed you to forgive the 1037 sets each year by The Fall....

ROFL The Fall! Man, he loved those guys innit! I imagine it might be hard for people outside of the UK to really understand how imprtant he was to so many generations here. I used to listen to him religiously as a teenager and yeah, there'd be some absolute garbage but it was all worthwhile just for the first time hearing Source Direct or some obscure Krautrock track he dug out of the vault and being trully educated about music.

i have no idea who is who which is why i asked..but i like this little mini interview he does here.i dont know John Peel but the few sessions ive heard i really like the way he handles the artists. He automatically seems to know what questions to ask to lighten the mood.
