I recently get the kicks out of bad-ass guitar solo's

two of my favourites being the end solo of Pink Floyds Comfortably Numb (the 8 minute version) and All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix.

What are some of yours?

thin lizzy - dancing in the moonlight
elvin bishop - fooled around and fell in love
fairport convention - dirty linen
anything by zeppelin - over the hills and far away, in my time of dying, stairway to heaven, etc.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Geek USA Guitar solo is about 3minutes in, and is just perfect.

I get some kicks from the insanely amazing John Petrucci from Dream Theatre. Glass Prison is a good song for solos.

Van Halen - Eruption ( A MUST LISTEN )
A friend of mine can play this on his guitar, it's awesome to watch.

* Sleep Now In The Fire - Rage Against The Machine (Tom Morello)
* Stockholm Syndrome - Muse (Matt Bellamy a.k.a. God-like-Genius.)
* The Fly - U2 (The Edge. OK, so they suck a fat one today. But this solo still makes my hairs stand up on my neck)
* Paranoid Android (Jonny Greenwood - simply cause I can play it note perfect from start to finish and it feels awesome to play. That's right, I'm a big deal - sniff)
* Some Kind of Wizard - Biffy Clyro (Simon Neil - Scotlands finest hairy-bastard rockers recently went mainstream, but this is a classic example of what they can do when they decide to go weird and wonderful. Oh and I have this down note-perfect too.)

All that Eddie Van Halen/Steve Vai/Jo Satriani type stuff is all very impressive, but I still believe in less is more. One note played well is worth 3 million played for no fucking reason. Word.

I didn't think there were any other Biffy fans on this board! I was really let down by their more mainstream sounding recent effort Puzzle, but Infinity Land, and Vertigo of Bliss are essential albums.

To be honest, I'd not even considered anyone on here would know who they are, especially those outside the UK! Puzzle was a little sugary for me, but they still got it live. Seen em 5 times and they just get better and better. Sadly, I think the days of Vertigo of Bliss are long gone.....

Still, 'Mon Tha Biffy!

I find it hard to choose one. But it would probably be the intro to Sweet Child O Mine. Short and sweet. My knowledge of guitar is limited so I don't know anything about difficulty. Meaning I picked one that makes me feel awesome every time I hear it.

Surfing With the Alien is fun to hear as well. Could that be called a solo?

Zappa HOT RATS has some of the best guitar ever...

It was a tough one to beat on expert on Guitar Hero so yes. It has crazy solos in it.

Not a massive fan - my mate is a HUGE fan and got me into them recently though.

As for the original question, I'd go for Nick McCabe's solo about 3 1/2 mins into The Verve's "Life's An Ocean"
