I seriously hate the dodgy internet exploder in this computer cluster- it just crashed after i wrote a lot about why this album is so special and makes the hairs on my neck stand on end.

It's brilliant, deep and funky hip-hop, but the samples are so direct and personal, and it's really well executed. It's like a message about impermanence and mortality addressed directly to the listener. When you start to get the coherent theme running through all the tracks it puts a whole new spin on the bittersweet vibe of the album. I can't think of another album that strikes me as so personal and honest, it almost feels voyeuristic to listen to it.

I'm shocked and appalled there's not a thread about it already, one of my all-time favourite albums.

I only started listening to J Dilla a few months ago (after reading an article about him in The Wire), very special music indeed.

One of my favourite albums of all time.

Anti American Graffiti, U-Love and Don't Cry are all fucking delicious!

Only just bought it. This album is fucking incredible. Surpasses all his other work purely because he made this music for himself. The personal element shines through so brightly.

I delayed getting this album because few of the tracks I heard from it really blew me away, but now I realise it needs to be heard as an album. Genius.

I did hip-hop during the 'golden age' (I am 36 lol). And to be honest it's very rare I like anything in the last 18 years or so. I like cLOUDEAD, Jedi Mind Tricks and a few others. I stopped listening when the word 'nigger' was used every sentance and the rise of gangsta rap def put it to death for me.

I keep hearing about J Dilla, I may have to give it a spin.

Fuck yearr! One of my favorite albums of all time. Not quite in the top10 but close. I have a copy on vinyl as well. Still remember listening it to the first time, everything was totally unexpected. It's a weird album altogether, I just smile and laugh at it's brilliance every time I listen to it.

He wrote this album on his death bed. Pure genius!
