"The Internet is Evil. Wake Up."

So I'm on lunch break, and I'm thinking a little harder than usual, but...

If absence makes the heart grow fonder, then the naive use of technology, with its further progression toward total and omnipresent social connection, threatens to distort, and even erode, the powers of time and distance to strengthen valuable relationships and to weaken shallow ones, and thus threatens to homogenize relationships into a simple array of acquaintances and faces with whom one has little or no connection, spurring the deterioration of the potential for strength of traditional friendships and, conversely, the potential for the much-needed disintegration of useless or even detrimental social bonds, perhaps barring those which are necessarily of inherent value, such as those from birth familial.

Anyone else think anything similar, or disagree?

i'm cutting off my internet in a week. not something i want to be a part of.

Spot on. But I'm weak so I won't be giving up my internets.

I wouldn't worry about people changing in a fundamental way. We all still need the same things from other human beings with or without the internet, and even if the internet is a powerful enough distraction to cause us to forget what those things are, we'll have to remember at some point.

Internet is cool.
