It was the fake "Focus on the Spiral" on a fake Closes Vol.1
It's on a page of Dave from 2001's music as "kidsfortoday"

Okay, that's weird. I was just listening to this on Winamp, and didn't know where from.
It's not BoC-sounding though. If you were to isolate the melody that comes in like 30 seconds in and remix it you could probably make a decent fake.

Could be, they do say they do different stuff beside the BoC project...
Could be taking parts of the boc sound with other music ya know.

ive heard some of these before as BoC fakes. kidsfortoday doesnt sound that much different than the rest of these in my opinion. However, this stuff is all pretty cool, is there any more info on Dave from 2001? "for robotanlysis" is awesome. "Dave from 2001" is a great name too! I must say these are some of the most authentic "boc ripoffs" ive heard. Especially the track mistaken for Treeline. That song is brilliant!
Does he have a website or myspace? or any other music other than this directory off the robotanalysis blog?

Actually I may think that the rhythm is too simple for a BoC music... like not complex or various enough
Anyway this one is a damn good track, and I guess Dave from 2001's work was worth the thread

great little track, this -- no chance in hell this is BoC but strangely i think it sits quite nicely in that fake Closes among the old tunes tracks.
anyone know who did the Roybgiv cover on that? or the really really bad Trails remix?

I agree with the spirit of what SI said, though I think I would phrase it more like... it's easy to pull off a sound that immediately reeks of BoC and is the kind of music one can tell is intended not just to sound nostalgic or old, but really approximate one of BoC's styles. It's not easy to pull off -everything- BoC do since they're such fierce detail-oriented perfectionists and have a very clear artistic vision that only the two of them really have full knowledge of. But if you wanted to it's not that difficult to sound just like at least one aspect of BoC.
I recorded a short melody a few months ago that sounded -exactly- like an Old Tune - the key signature, the texture and timbre of the synth, the delay technique, it was all there, would've been a perfect fake. It took me all of a minute and a half, and I wasn't even trying to go for an Old Tune sound in the first place. It made me start to think about my music and about branching out into different styles. I'm a little wary of the idea of doing this nostalgic downtempo thing forever.

And, yes a single aspect of the nostalgic feel of BoC's music is not so hard to create. However, I think you don't do justice to BoC's originalitly and uniqueness if one says that BoC is easy to copy. No, I think how hard people even try, they will never get to the level of BoC. On the other hand, people will see them as copycats, and will not take the music seriously..

obviously yall are free to disagree till the cows come home and i respect that. different ears and different minds.
but personally, to me, that sounds enough like BoC for me to call it quits right there, label the track "BoC Ripoff #8,972" and get someone to make a YouTube video for me so we can subversively perpetuate my dumbed-down BoC wannabe sound.
