Foma is the second album to date by Lukid. The young London-based producer first came to our attention last year with his debut Onandon, which seemed to anticipate this year's avalanche of wonky, glitched-up hip-hop gear. But this year's Foma confirms just how much of a mistake it would be to lump in Lukid's work with the post-grime gigantism of, say, Joker or Rustie, or even the serrated R&B formulations of Flying Lotus or Mike Slott; though some of its more swinging beats and low-slung basslines owe a significant debt to Dabrye, Foma displays a highly developed sense of texture, melody and atomic-level processing that makes it more than remarkable in its own right.
