Boards of Canada and LSD

1) Aquarius and the number counting.
Time on LSD is very, very weird. You can see this representing in the yellow submarine movie by the beatles, in which they show you that one minute is actually a very long time. In Aquarius they start counting numbers, I think in perfect time. This on acid is quite odd, especially when they start messing the numbers up. Time has always been a huge focus while on LSD trips and it is apparent that BOC is trying to do something related to that aspect of LSD in this song.
2) Merging sounds on Into the Rainbow Vein and a Moment of Clarity.
On LSD sounds can merge together and fade in and out, this is so obvious when listening to these two songs. You can actually feel the music pulse in and out and fade in, out and away.
3) Dayvan Cowboy and the crashing wave percussion.
This song fills you with so much intensity on LSD, It took me 20 or so listens to finally figure out that the precussion in this song is meant to simulate the crashing waves of the ocean, In fact, The Campfire Headphase is full of waves if you listen close, which brings me to my next point...
4) LSD and Waves.
LSD and waves is huge, on lsd waves are what you experience.
Waves of light.
Take a mirror ball and slowly fade in different colors in a dark room on LSD. Or get 5 different colors of glow sticks and mix and match them together while you watch the colors merge together to create different shades of color.
Waves of time
Time can seem to slow down and speed up on LSD, almost like waves in the ocean, they rise and fall, reach a climax and slowley roll away, time follows this same pattern and I think BOC understands this fully. ei Aquarius.
Waves of sound
Sound on LSD can become distorted and mangled, fade in and out with different sounds to produce auditory hallucinations.
On Satellite Anthem Icarus they have waves at the start, this relates to the waves you experiance on acid, a wave of water is much like a sine wave, it starts out slow, then reaches a climax and slowly fades away....
5) Diving Station and amp modulation.
On LSD if you mess with the AMP modulation on sounds you can experience a slowdown or hastening of time depending on how you affect the modulation. This is so obvious in diving station, where they mess with the modulation amp. You can also do this with some types of short delay, it is very powerful, especially on LSD. BOC knows this, and thats why they have this in this song, for it distorts your perception of time while on LSD.
Example:
On LSD if you play slide guitar you can actually play time as an instrument. It is possibly the most amazing thing I have ever done. Time and sound get inter-mingled on LSD and you can actually control the visualls you receive by moving the slide up and down the guitar and adjusting your strumming speed. Go down the guitar and the visuals on the wall kaleidescope left, go up the guitar and the visuals turn right. Simply amazing...
6) The BOC kaleidescope.
On LSD sometimes you get visuals that are much like a kaleidescope, is it a coincidence that BOC put money into manufacturing this amazing toy for us to play with? Hmmm..... Perhaps we should look through it on acid while listening to certain BOC songs.... There is much experimenting to be done here.
7) An album called "Acid Memories"
This is pretty obvious, I mean even way a back in the day BOC had been experimenting with LSD and music for a long time. When you climb up through all their albums and EP's one thing is very clear.
BOC is meant to be like an LSD trip, and the music itself is very influenced by all aspects of LSD.
Telephasic Workshop
Auditory Hallucinations on LSD are so very delicious and they really get into it on this song. The chopped up vocals on LSD merge with one another and are just amazing.
I have more, but I have to experiment with them a bit.... I think The Campfire Headphase is the strongest LSD album BOC has, and I think every song has a secret to it, much like the crashing waves in Dayvan Cowboy... which took me many listens to unlock. (I finally figured it out while on LSD laying down in my bed.)
If you guys have ever experienced BOC on LSD share your stories and interesting findings here, and, if you have not, what are you waiting for?
Peace and love, stars, the night sky and the ocean merging together to form one black canvas of pure happiness.
