Saw this last night. I must say I loved it. I am not a trekkie or trekker or trekkenshire...I did watch some of the old episodes from 69-74 but, thats about it. Normally the big Hollywood blockbuster don't always get me excited. Especially when they are remakes. However this movie was fantastic. Start to finish...it had a little bit of everything. Plus it looks and sounds fuckin wicked and the best thing is you do not have to know a single thing about star trek to enjoy...so do yourslef a favor and enjoy.

I might give it a go but the trailer has made it look too 'epic'... I don't think it looks right unless it has low budget cheesyness...

Same with Red Dwarf, the charm was how crap everything looked, so when it starts to look too real then it loses something...

Superb film.

Still prefer sci-fi that takes its time though...everything's too quick for the eye to appreciate these days. The first Trek film is still my favorite of the lot.

i love what they did, turned the whole star trek universe upside down. you gotta love time travel and it's effects

Seeing this tomorrow in Imax. I squee with geeky anticipation and the slight sense of disbelief that Tim Bisley will be masquerading as Scotty. Whouldathunkit?

I don't want to see it. It doesn't look like Star Trek to me. It looks like an ordinary modern sci fi action film. It just looks like a bunch of CGI and explosions and good-looking young actors and actresses. Hell with it.

You'll enjoy it man...give it a shot. I saw it with my dad, who's an old-school Trekkie...he loved it. In fact, I hadn't seen him that excited in a long time. There's enough there for old a new fans alike.

Wow, what a great film. I'm buying this on Blueray as soon as it comes out.
It has great action and delivers classic lines from the original series. Some great humor in it too. As a long time trekkie fan (TNG rules btw) I loved it.

Really? Even over Wrath of Khan? Hmm.. I'll have to revisit.

No but really, I really enjoyed this film. I was a big fan of the movies and TNG as a kid, and they struck a nice middle ground. If I fault it for anything I fault it for its amphetamine pacing... but that seems congenital to summer blockbusters in general, so... I guess I can't fight it.

The first film is more of a hard sci-fi than most of the others...that's the main reason it stands in my memory so well. The plot is almost like something Carl Sagan would have written (especially with Voyager involved). The pacing and visuals are great as well...obviously influenced by 2001.

If you watch it again, pick up the director's cut.
