what programs/equipment do you use?
i've played around with garageband for recording some live instruments but i got Logic recently and want to start to do some more serious electronic-y stuff
i really have no idea how to use Logic at this point so i should probably get some kind of tutorial book but was just wondering what other people were using

If I were you, I'd go with Logic and just learn it inside and out, I've heard it's a great program. As for me, I use Reason mostly.

Reason again here. If anything I found Logic too open-ended. Reason keeps me focussed.
Really looking forward to the Record add-on coming in the fall too.

korg microkorg, acoustic guitars/bass, electric guitar/bass as well..
ableton, fruity loops, cool edit pro for software

The missing component as far as I'm concerned. Can't see myself using Logic ever again once I have this.

I use Goldwave for editing loops and samples, and a demo version of Ableton for arranging, additional editing, and the Simpler function.

**Here is Phasen saying that Ableton is the shit and everyone should at least try it out because it does EVERYTHING you could want from recording, editing, mixing, playing live, etc etc. it just kicks**

That's a fantastic programme if you learn it inside out, like most i guess. This dj called Mentalo uses it and it's such a wicked sound!
I play guitar and basic keys and am trying to record voice. I loop riffs and mess them about on Ableton, absolutely amazing for that and wave editing etc. I also record on Logic which is excellent as well with wicked features. I hardly know ANY features but just mess about with effects anyway and don't do much tweaking. I actually haven't got a soundcard and record my acoustic and keyboard directly to the mic and mess about with EQ to cancel out noise. I do like to record this way because it retains a certain lo-fi quality which I like. Will be getting an amp and Soundcard pretty soon, as soon as I get serious, good and confident enough to record these songs and send them away to djs and stuff.

go into logic, stir some fresh beats up, add the pouriage, and press play. mighty fine toast! like a crumpet and tea please. you'll be finely goodened by the whole mushic thing, and spew out tunes one by seven, six ages an hour. and we will all bow down and feast on your delicious tunes.

I use: Ableton. Fruityloops (for the synths). Behringer XENYX 1002. A microphone that normally goes on a camera, but actually works fine on my Xenyx 1002. An old keyboard, which I can't replace since it's the only thing that didn't got thrown out after my grandfathers death.

So, in summary, there's no one definitive best way to make music.
Ableton, FruityLoops, Logic, Reason, Acid... They are all great bits of software. I loved the sound of Ableton but it didn't mesh with my way of composing. Shame really, as those realtime filters and effects are killer.
Whatever program gives the least resistance to you getting what's in your head into sound is the one to use.

I made a whole song ripping things off youtube and using Microsoft SAM on Audacity. I still think it is the greatest song I have ever made and I'm really sad to have lost it
