Brand new interview taken yesterday in New York for Warp20 NYC.

"Unlike with Aphex [Twin], I’m in constant contact with them. They’re just absolute perfectionists—they won’t let anything slip through the net that they aren’t 100-percent comfortable with. They’ll literally have 150 to 200 tracks and try to narrow it all down to the best 18 for an album, or something like that. They’ll throw away two or three albums to get to one."

"Most people look at them as electronic artists, but they can also sit down and strum acoustic guitars, or play the piano, next to each other and sing harmonies. They’ve just got amazing musical knowledge and skills that comes through the music. They’re definitely closer to [a new record], but their concept of time is different than most people."

--He also talks about Aphex, Chris Cunningham, and other artists on his label. Pretty up to date stuff.

Yup, no rumour. It came straight from Steve Beckett himself though he didn't say 2009 for sure.

If this is true, i think it's such a bullshit excuse.

I don't need or expect such perfection.

Why make 200 tracks and pare it down? This seems more like OCD than being a musician. It also sounds like record label garbage to keep fans on their toes. I heard the same thing with Axl Rose and 14 years later got a crap album becasue it toook sooooo long!!!

Sometimes artists need deadlines.

yep saw the same article myself, back in March.

like i said though, unless there's an official statement on warp.net, then it's still a rumour. regardless of whether it's come from the label managers mouth or not.

i just really hope he does some more stuff like The Tuss material he did. that stuff is easily the most played material of his in my room

i really hope you're not inferring that i am a fanboy? i am a musician myself, hence why i made that statement. and if you look through some of my previous posts, i too have mentioned about the sometimes "over-the-top" fanboy-ish things that some people do where BoC is concerned.

What would Kubrick's output have been like if he was constantly fussing about deadlines? We only have a handful of his films, but he was proud of all of them, and each is brilliant in its own regard (even Eyes Wide Shut, IMO). He's a legend as a result.

Creative genius takes its own time. That's simply the way of it.

i really hope you're not inferring that i am a fanboy? i am a musician myself, hence why i made that statement. and if you look through some of my previous posts, i too have mentioned about the sometimes "over-the-top" fanboy-ish things that some people do where BoC is concerned.

I'm implying nothing. I'm going straight at your statement that If I was a musician I would understand. What is there to understand? Have you ever been in a studio and watched bands fret over EQ mixes? Some of the greatest music recorded on this planet earth was done in 12 hours or a day or 3 weeks because there was some sort deadline, be it financial or otherwise. Only a fanboy would think making 3-4-5 albums and widdling it down to one is an appropriate path to take. How would you or I or anyone know what "perfect" is if you have nothing to compare it to? Have you ever watched a movie and known that it was the 1st or 10th or 20th take of a scene? And how would you know which take was best? Also, you can't please everyone, so whatever take you have on a song might please one side and not the other. Conversely, you can do the opposite of what you have and please an entirely different side of your audience.

You know it! The Tuss is the grooviest.

Anyway, I think the new BoC album is going to sound absolutely immense when it comes out. After realizing how painstaking it must've been to make The Campfire Headphase, I've sort of accepted the long-ass waits between albums. The level of detail is sooo dense. It really does make the replay value about 1000 times higher and it sound pretty timeless in my opinion.

Plus there's tons of other good music to distract us in the mean time.
