Which companies or brands do you hate? Why?

A good example is how people hate Apple products because to them the products are overpriced. 'Paying for the brand and not for the quality'.
For myself its Axe bodyspray. Not only for their nasty scents, but also for the repulsive ad campaigns.
Double pits to chesty? Ugh. Kill me now.

A friend of mine once said that I'm the 'least branded' person that she knows. I wear that compliment with pride. However, when it comes to music, I am extremely loyal
Axe must go. Their chemicals are harmful (look it up)
As for marketing, I read a great quote once that sums it all up:
Marketing is the art of arresting human intelligence long enough to get money out of it.

Starbucks. I know it's an obvious one, but this is not what I call coffee. Spreading blandness and mediocrity across the world. Really, just fuck off.
Another is McDonald's. If you were to see some of the current UK tv ads, you'd think that each toasted-this or oven-baked that is freshly delivered to you straight from the farmer's own kitchen, and drizzled with armpit dew from Mother Nature herself.
I think I'm allergic to marketing in general, especially for stuff which is pure shite and is known to be pure shite. Spending millions of dollars on media campaigns telling me that your specific brand of shite is actually better than hot sex won't wash. And repeating it ad nauseum on every bus shelter, billboard and cheap ITV3 ad spot isn't going to change my mind.

Agreed. Another reason I'm skipping my marketing lecture this afternoon
(an unfortunate side effect of studying design is that we do marketing once a week- it's soul destroying)

Apple -it feels like i have to be
a; in a band. b; have a fro. c; studying art.
before I can rightfully use the product, and feel ripped off because dispite the big money I payed, it doesn't feel like my own.
Microsoft - vista is extreme vomit.
IBM....come on, a jew-kill-counting machine?

Microsoft - Decides that it's big enough to redefine standards set in the computing world just so they can force users to buy the next version ofwhatever. Why are there 4 different .doc/.xls formats? Oh yeah, money. They make terrible products and are underhanded when it comes to copyrights and patents.
Apple - Just as underhanded and money-grubbing as Microsoft, but with the "underdog mentality." I admit, they can make some quality products, but they're willing to swindle other companies or people out of their chance to shine if they can make a penny off of it (iPhone app store, anyone?).
Both companies need to burn. LONG LIVE GNU!

Wal Mart.
California or tattoo-inspired clothing brands.
Hummer, it was cool until every soccer mom in the suburbs got one for their groceries.
Processed food brands, thanks for keeping America fat.
Processed food brands advertising specifically to children. Said children whine to their parents to buy them disgusting shit like gushers, fruit roll-ups etc. The add had cartoon characters all over it to brainwash them and the kids don't know better and the parents can't convince the kids that real fresh foods are better.
Crocs.
Rainbow flip flops.
White socks.

I never buy popular brands of clothes, I just buy what fits. As a matter of fact in the rare case I prefer a brand it is because its quality is notably better - Coca Cola is an example. Every time I feel tempted to prefer a certain brand I try to rationalize the thoughts and I usually conclude I'm becoming a victim of mass commercialisation or implicit marketing indoctrination which is something I consciously want to avoid.
And I dislike all Apple products. I don't need something that supposedly is more reliable or easier or more intuitive than Intel x86 based computers and their OSes, as I grew up with the latter and learned how to hack them. Plus I don't care the least for design (in computers at least) and I refuse to pay a cent extra for it. Plus I don't prefer to be associated with any elitist subculture such as fashion designers or any other downright spoiled group of people (in my eyes). I don't use MP3 players but if I would then I would certainly prefer any generic whitelabel player to an iPod.

Apple - I love apple. I am a unix sys admin, and dba, and 15 year apple user. However, I HATE Apple posers (ie. I'm in a band, therefore Apples are cool)
Walmart - I love walmart. I can get anything I want, whenever I want. However, I HATE the monopoly they are.
Starbucks - Well they have the highest caffeine content in their coffee, so I love them. However, I love the small owned coffee shops MORE.
I hate clothing stores, and cosmetics marketing. Good will, and salvation army is where it's at.

Yea, it's a love-hate with chain stores like that. They're so easy to locate without going out of your way. So you always yearn for some other practical option.
Though I avoid wal mart like the plague. In college towns they are a necessity but once you move away from an area like that they are just...ugh. I used to think it was just the south, but then I discovered peopleofwalmart. Yea.

True, people who own Macs perform mental gymnastic trying to justify why they spent 1500 bucks on their mediocre computer that performs almost as well as a 600 dollar PC. Some macs are good, but you will be extorted like fuck for them. It's called product positioning, where marketing tactics have people convinced that their product is higher end, more sophisticated, and for connoisseurs only. You've been hoodwinked, I tell ya. Grey Goose vodka pulled this off nicely as well.
Marketing =

lol. I have been using Macs for 15 years.
I am a unix programmer, therefore a unix command line is a key line in my work.
I am left to choose from the various distros such as linux, of which I hate equally to microsoft, then the BSD distros and so on, then look! Apple has a unix kernel, and I have used them for 15 years!!
ergo, dono is an Apple user.
PS: I bet you my APPLE intel quad 2.2 xeon, with 16 GB of ram on my 64-bit OS would kick yours out of the water.

I'm an Mac user, only because I've tried the products myself after various friends cajouled and poked and persuaded me to look at the products. After years of suffering with Windows and Linux - and my god, I suffered - I just find OS X (and the hardware it sits on) a joy to use.
So Apple marketing never directly swayed me or got me to this point. Indeed if it wasn't for their marketing crapola and dumb 'thou-art-cleverer-if-you-use-a-Mac' bullshit then I may well have been with learning about their products way sooner and not spent years resisting the global wall of advertising smugness.

I'm not too fond of the BBC as of late. Don't get me wrong, they make some great programmes, and the iPlayer is a very handy tool which i use on a weekly basis, but what the fuck is wrong with BBC Three? Seriously, fuck! What a god awful channel it has turned into! It used to be pretty decent, years back like BUT now they are really taking the piss with programmes about Britney Spears fans who had the cameras on them, and whenever a Britney song would play, they'd start crying, i mean COME OOOOOOOOOON!
And programmes about pregnant teens too, that i don't need, if i want to see pregnant teens, i'll go in Bolton town centre!
Oh yeah, and Sky Digital are dicks too, the flagship channel Sky1 is apparently getting psychic medium Derek Acorah to do a show in which he tries to connect with Michael Jackson, THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD!
Derek Acorah chats shite anyway.
I'm outta here!
