A similar topic exploded on another forum I frequent, and I thought it might be interesting to try here.

I'll go first.

Prescriptions filled at pharmacies are not as 'sterile' as one might think. The pill bottles from the manufacturing plant are cracked open and divided out according to demand into individual bottles by hand on dirty dusty trays with dirty 'utensils' and mostly by college interns that couldn't give two shits about cleanliness. I inventory several pharmacies in my city every month and our workers go in, without gloves or being required to wash hands, and count pills by hand on trays, often dropping several dozen at a time all over the floor just out of carelessness. When it is a pill $5 or more each (most of them), they are instructed to pick them up and count them as normal. Customer never knows...

Most large department stores security cameras are fake/unmonitored. Have you ever counted those black bubbles in a Wal-mart for example? Over a hundred. You couldn't pay someone enough to sit in front of a hundred screens watching for shoplifters all day, not to mention what that kind of technical infrastructure would actually cost to set up...

I also used to work at a distribution center for a MAJOR ski manufacturer. We would still ship out skis that were dropped from 60 feet off forklifts accidentally (for example) just to meet speed goals and demand with the managerial explanation that "if something's wrong with it when the customer/store gets them, they'll return it". If you ski/board, look over the ENTIRE thing before using it. If your tip breaks off, or board delaminates for no reason, it is very possibly a problem that started somewhere along the distribution chain. And by the time you notice, it'll be too late for reimbursement (that's what they're hoping for)...

umm, most of you probably know this but-

working at a restaurant has made me really dislike eating out. I just don't think about how many steaks I've seen dropped on the dirty floor and then put on a plate, cockroaches all over the potatoes (never eat the skins at restaurants!) etc. That, and 90% of the waiters are drunk, stoned, or pilled out as they are taking your order. ANY restaurant is like this, in my experience.

If you reserve a truck and they are unable to get the truck you reserved by that time, you're pretty much screwed. You're supposed to get fifty bucks if that happens but basically.. no, you aren't getting fifty bucks.

About 6 months ago this happened to a lady who had reserved a trailer, I didn't have the trailer that was supposed to come in the night before. She got pretty pissed, and declined the larger trailer for the same price (???????).. She decided to call the shop the next day and basically tell me that I'm worthless and I'll never make it in the business world - Usually I'll keep my cool about these things and try to keep it proffessional, but this lady was unreasonably ridiculous. She was pretty offended when I called her 'Lady', and told her to calm her ass down. Eventually her husband hopped on the phone and yelled "I DONT LIKE YER TONE BOY, IM GONNA COME DOWN THERE AND TAKE CARE OF YA" so I wished him luck and he hung up..

I've been looking for another job in place of this one, but I've not heard anything from any business I've applied to. Seems to be the case for everyone I talk to.

My shift manager has a bad temper and occasionally licks the sides of a customer's bun. I can't say anything because he's the one who decides if I get a raise or a promotion.

OH wait! I used to work! I worked for a chocolate factory that made Ferrero Rochers. They throw out more chocolate in a week than Oprah could eat in a year. (and that's a hell of a lot). If the sticker on the wrapper is slightly off centered or if the chocolate's weight is just off or for many other stupid reasons they just throw it out. Luckily it was my job to throw it out so I got as much free chocolate as I wanted. They kept the place pretty spotless and sterilized, so no worries if you're gonna grab some munchies.

I also worked for a call center that did a major credit card company. I met a lot of very rich people who were very stupid, flat out clueless. It scares me that it's these kind of people who are running the world's economy. No wonder its been crashing.

I also worked in a Pawn Shop. A ton of crap there. But every once in a while you come across an awesome deal. I would never pawn something off or sell anything to one though, cuz they give you crap deals that way.

i've worked at 4 restaurants so far and at every one i've seen someone drop food on the ground and send it out anyways.

oh man. so many jobs, so many stories. any story you've heard about the service industry is true. although I can honestly say that I've never spit in anybody's food or something similar. with that said, sometimes that regular coffee you asked for is decaf...

and i've polished a knife or two with my breath...

Software developers deliberately leave bugs in their code so they can charge the client more to fix them further down the line. It is why I quit being a programmer. Damn ethics!

I've just got myself a new job at the gouvernment. Answering peoples questions about their taxes and stuff, if I would want to, I could look up what everybody in Holland gets payed,lives,if they are married or not, and lots of other stuff. But ofcourse, if I do that, I'll be fired so I wont ;p

i figured as much. my web designer did that to me several years ago so i fired him and learned everything myself.

yup, it's cos of slovenly paperboys like me that you miss out on the DFS half price sale....

Eh. I worked in a boba tea place and we had a huge fructose machine. Every drink we made we would press the 4oz button on it and it would shoot out HFCS into the cup. Those drinks are advertised as "healthy" and "fresh" but they are the complete opposite, its really just insane amounts of HFCS and syrup. I made the mistake when I first started working there of drinking a bunch of drinks,..oh my god.. the most painful urination ever on top of fatigue and headache. I take it real easy with sugar and avoid HFCS after working in that place.

I work in tesco. big company so things do tend to get done by the book, but whether or not you get that faulty product returned is basically up to how much the teenager you speak to likes your face.

I feel like this is true confessions or something.

I'm a computer programer, and unix network admin. Sometimes, when I have "had enough", I sit at my desk and play old school computer games, when I'm supposed to be working.
