I need some perfect examples of rocking the faces of an audience for my upcoming gig.
I made some notes of elvis, james brown, pink floyd, even shit like the sex pistols and System of a down...but it doesn't feel enough or something.

What would you recommend seeing?

Really tough call Hendrik... most of my favourite ever performances has been ideas and excecution of their songs live and atmosphere.. specially like the overall effect of a SHOW. I don't think I've seen altogether amazing examples of showmanship live.

I say Jarvis FUCKIN cocker in Green Man was superb, and of course Mr Pelle with the Hives when I saw them in Reading. I mostly love nonchalance and concentration with music... I guess as time's gotten on I've become more impressed by music that mesmerizes than rockin tunes. Both have great advantages.

That just looks like such a perfect audience.. everyone really into it even though it's slow. But yeah, check out Cocker and the Hives for sure

well there's the dillinger escape plan ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQImBHZ6 ... re=related ), who get right up in your face, jump off of shit, run on top of the crowdand occasionally breathe fire. there was one time at a music festival, when they were playing right before like mudvayne and korn and other shitty music, when their vocalist took a shit into a bag, and threw it into the crowd, and said "this is what you're going to be listening to later on".

my other favorite live bands are fall of troy, tera melos, and radiohead.

Hehe, that performance in the Virgin store where he walks on the heads is pretty famous I think. I once was at a TDEP gig, where the singer all of a sudden picked up a very heavy looking flight case and threw it in the audience, after which the audience, thousands of people, instinctively took a few steps back. I was at another gig by them and they acted very spastic and wild. I reckon one of them will have had a heart attack by the time they are 40.

Pretty much most of the Radiohead shows. I absolutly love how confident Thom is on stage.

I had the pleasure of seeing that live :/ Reading festival 2002 I think... remains the craziest live sh*t i've ever seen lol...

As for showmanship- naked is always a laugh ;D

Hmmm. I'd like to think it's easy but when you're using backing tracks it will separate you from the audience a bit in the fact you'll need to concentrate a lot

tight silver trousers, leather jacket with a leopard on the back, walking on the auidence's hands, blood, peanut butter, offering the whole audience out for a fight and/or a blowjob.

only real big named act i've seen was Tool. amazing.

for the song wings, they covered the air with a ceiling of fog, so that lasers could show through them really bright. but the coolest part was how they made it seem like flashes of lightning would be striking overhead as thunder came in and out through the song.

also the stage was completely white, and the entire thing became a video showcase. amazing cool backdrops (both for the one i went to, and their lateralus tour). just all in all great concert. sound was amazing, the screeches were fucking ear piercing. the drums were crisp and you could FEEL every single tiny hit of every percussive sound
