I'm not sure if there's a topic for this yet, (if there is, go ahead and lock this one.) but I feel like there needs to be a thread. Just post an album you're really digging and tell us about it. I find this is a good way to find out about new music.

It's the soundtrack to Inception. I really liked the movie, and the soundtrack is pretty epic. If you've seen the movie, and like dreamy, detached, desolate music, go DL this.

I've always liked Arcade Fire but this is their best record yet, it sounds so grandiose and rich
and Win Butler's vocals sound as heartfelt as ever...

I just picked up the new Carbon Based Lifeforms album that came out a few months ago and feel compelled to listen to it in its entirety every time I get the urge to listen to it..which is pretty often right about now.

At the moment Im really enjoying "And they have escaped the weight of darkness" by Olafur Arnalds. Great neo-classical work

Great to see somebody else enjoying chipmusic around here! It is a great little album and Dance 3 is one of my all time favourite tracks.

also, I went to see Arcade Fire at Leeds Fest a week ago and they played a lot of tracks from this. It's my favourite by them as of yet and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to.

I am really liking Merriweather Post Pavilion still.... I know it's a bit old by now, but still great

trademark ribbons of gold, DANGER's EPS, ecstasy and friends, lots of electronic recently,

i've been listening to the incredible string band a lot more as well.

Yes! Me too. CBL is my favorite band (BoC comes in very close 2nd ). They're absolutely brilliant.

Yeah good album right; I love Dance 4 and Dance 5.
I'm not too familiar with chipmusic , and usually find gameboy composed chiptunes not that very enjoyable or too much all over the place , but this is great.

I'm not too familiar with chipmusic , and usually find gameboy composed chiptunes not that very enjoyable or too much all over the place , but this is great.

Well, I've been into making and listening to chipmusic for quite a few years now but I have to agree with you regarding how gameboy artists go about creating their music. Assuming you like BoC you might dig some of the mid 90's demoscene stuff often produced on the Amiga/PC, there were a lot of brilliant ambient artists like Brothomstates/Dune, Lackluster, Vim and Radix! Not as messily composed or stupidly melodic, hehe.

I'd even go as far to say that the contemporary style of chipmusic is an almost entirely different genre than the stuff me and my internetbuddies used to produce in the late nineties, which had a clear emphasis on good, emotional, happy melodies (usually) and good techniques (which was a result of the demoscene ideal that a good scener would be able to use minimal means to create epic productions), whereas the current "gameboy music" merely seems to lean on the "retro" aesthetic as a base for its succes.

Absolutely. There's a few artists out there that do try different stuff with the GB and focus on the limitations and synthesis (cTrix, little-scale, Peer, Beastmode, Je deviens dj en 3 jours and newer Nullsleep material) but like you said a lot use the whole GB thing as an attention seeking device whilst playing their boring 4/4 music, heh.
I think a lot of them would be screwed if it came to having to keep their tunes under 32kb or making a song using only 1 sample
