I found this interesting...

New full length album from Blackpool recording artist VHS Head.

A collage of vocals, melodic splatters and stop/start rhythms grind against industrial soundscapes and atmospheric backdrops, while basslines and mutated guitar hooks grab the listener for a very enjoyable ride.

The name 'trademark ribbons of gold' was a reference to the pre-cert era of video tapes . This was the true golden era of home video

A "pre-cert video" is any videotape issued in the UK before the introduction of the 1984 Video Recordings Act. Pre-cert videos were not required by law to be submitted to the BBFC so the era was unregulated, leading to many uncut releases of videos which would have fallen foul of the BBFC's strict guidelines. Some of the smaller independent companies decided to take advantage of this by issuing "strong uncut" versions depicting graphic violence and gore. A whole barrage of titles previously banned by the BBFC from getting a cinema release suddenly ended up uncensored on home video.

Question: It it possible that VHS Head is a side project of Boards of Canada? After listening to the album I see possible links to boards of Canada. Ex: VHS: Track 7.) Skyline - BoC TCH Track 4.) Skyliner. Coincidence?

Also, the track "seen enough?" has some voice editing that reminds me of one of BoC's live unknown tracks...

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here, I know other people have brought this subject up, I just feel that this is a bit more of a concrete comparison rather than, "They feel the same".

Jumping Subjects, Anyone know where the monologue in "Movies that never were" came from? I think I heard it in the movie "The Ninth Configuration" but not a 100% sure... Haven't watched that movie in quite a while...

I have no idea where you guys are hearing BOC in this stuff. Im just not hearing it. Its just like all the other stutter pop thats out there right now. Just a lot less gating and compressed bass. So, not as harsh on the ears.

I myself find these tunes annoying. Except for Motions. That ones pretty good.

On the other hand I could see Bibio having a hand in this as on his last release he has some similar tracks. Which reminds me of something someone had posted. I can't remember the thread, but it had to do with Bibio being related to BOC?

It is very well recorded though.

You really do talk some bollocks! Bibio is great but I don't think he has the ability to produce stuff this complex. And he hasn't made anything remotely similar to VHS Head's stuff on any of his previous albums. VHS Head is a hundred times closer to BoC than Bibio in technique.

What an album! Seen Enough? is my favourite right now, love that intro.

I don't think VHS Head and BoC have anything in common concerning sound. (It's obviously apparent) But at the same time I could see the Sandison's making this. Boards of Canada is like documentary film. This is VHS video nasties. They've stated in interviews that they make a ton of music but sometimes can't release it under Boards of Canada because of the context for which BoC stands. I just don't believe that VHS Head is a new artist, and so I think BoC are what's actually behind it all.

The recording quality is identical. Less sample-spazdik, but a simpler version of the same stuff.

BOC is nothing like VHS Head's approach. BOC, sure, have some samples from old movies, but who doesn't. VHS Head structures his entire tune from samples. BOC use choice samples to enhance or add mysticism to tracks.

And VHS Head is like the average shit coming out now. It just samples cut together. Its got no vibe.
90% of the tracks are all the same, seems like the tempo is the same, and the collage of samples comes out the same. Listen to it man, just samples. Nothing is close to BOC, not even the clones. They try, and fail.

Id say if ANYTHING, the way he stutters samples and is all 'choppy chopnick' style harkens more to the likes of Aphex Twin than BOC. Just without goodness.

The only thing you relate BOC to this stuff is the name and the fact the producer of this music is kept all hush hush. Didn't someone come on the forum and clear that up? Yes BOC sample stuff, sample old stuff, but so does Jack Dangers. LIKE MAD. Hell people that sample that old stuff are a dime a dozen. Does that make DJ Food like BOC? Does that make Daft Punk like BOC or Afrika Bambaataa for that matter? Come on. The comparison just seems absurd.
