Keith Kenniff aka Helios is just tooo amazing, i just love his stuff.. ever since i heard Unomia sometime last year i've been totally addicted. His stuff is so beautiful. I bought Unomia the day i heard it and now i've preordered Eingya..

Here's the problem though, i hunger for more.. and i've yet never encountered anyone who sounds even remotely similar to Helios, even though i've spent several weeks, maybe even months looking around. I wouldnt really call him IDM, his songs are more easylistened.. i think it differs pretty much from alot of the stuff on merck. I'm not looking for clicks, pops and those usual IDM sounds, neither am i looking for ambient á la Pete Namlook.. i just want pure downtempo, without any 'blipblop' sounds. Like helios - caecus, clementine, velius, dragonfly across an ancient sky.. anything similar to that..

Hope i made myself clear.. can you people recommend anything? Except for the occasional BoC stuff, that is...

Check out The Album Leaf or Xela. Xelas second album titled "Tangled Wool" is quite similar to Helios. Very mellow beats and guitar driven melodies, it's one of my favorites.

F*&K ME I never even heard Helios till this weekend, why not? Because his stoopid name put me off, wasnt in the mood for jumped up electronica boc wannabes and then i put unomia and transmited vibrations on my Ipod on the long coach journey to my brothers and back,

eclipse and nafas had me in tears, was at front of coach, boyfriend had fallen asleep lying on my knee, was just watching him and watching the sun go down, flippin big Heron flies past window of coach as we came up through cheshire, i cried for @$%#$% sake!! hehe

sorry though, Helios, seriously WRONG name for such amazingly beautiful and fantastic music.

those piano's make me feel in a warm safe place! think i need a holiday haha

Lol, what's wrong with the name Helios? I actually quite like the name...and he's definately FAR from a Boc wannabe, he has his own style. Well, glad to see more people getting into his music anyways.

Sally: Be sure to check Goldmund - Corduroy Road as well, it's another nick of Keith which is more piano based.

Helios is one of the people who make me want to burn my keyboard and guitars in despair.

His stuff is just immaculately composed; they're real *songs*, not sketches or doodles. Brilliant.

I just want to say that Helios is excellent. I can't wait for the new LP.

If you like his stuff and aren't afraid of music with New Age moments in it, there is a series of compilations called "Winter's Solstice" which often hit upon the mood and aesthetic that Helios is so proficient at. Every once in a while there is a goofy new ager track on those, but for the most part it is excellent, emotive muisc, with that organic feeling that makes Helios so appealing.

I think the name Helios is cool. But then again I like mythological references.

I believe that "helios" means "sun" in Greek. Oh yeah, that's college edumacation for ya.

You might like Brian Eno's "Ambient 4:On Land" - this (and other ambient artists like Biosphere) was clearly an influence on Keith, particularly on Unomia.

You on Soulseek? I'm on as 'fuseball'. I have a load of early mp3s by Helios shared, which I believe are all ones that he has put up for download at some time. There are some absolute corkers on there.

It really seems that Keith is following his own course with his Goldmund monicker and following BoC's course with his Helios monicker. On Eingya I definitely hear TCH influences, correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, Eingya drags me into farmlands full of atmosphere where I want to be lost in thought.

So you've heard the whole album? Do you think it's better than Unomia?

Indeed. I can't wait to hear this one.

Not sure that Helios has been particularly influenced by TCH. He's been mixing guitars and electronic sounds for quite some time now. I think they've both arrived at similar destinations via completely different routes.
