anyone else see tim and eric awesome show chrimbus special?

My girlfriend and I just watched it - it was amazing! I loved the bit with John C. Reilly as Dr. Steve Brule about eating a pound of hair. And the promotion of the dvd of the special during the special itself was amazing as well

god dammit... i missed this. i wonder when i will be able to see it again.

dont know how i missed hearing about these guys, but they've basically taken most of their ideas from Rathergood and YTP. still, funny!

Everyone takes their ideas from someone, no matter who they are. There is no original thought.

there are a lot of similarities in where the 'funny' is in T&E but i don't think they actually took inspiration directly from YTP or Rathergood. It doesn't strike me as so. No way of knowing without hearing it from them, I guess, but I can say that the techniques they use have been around since before YTP, they just only recently have become more popular humor mechanisms - the whole discomfort thing, and quick, zany, non-sequitur editing of scenes... It's nothing Monty Python didn't at least explore a little back in the 60's and 70's, it's just sped up and fed 8 bowls of sugar cereal for the modern sensibility.

Word. I'd say the show was more like Mr. Show and Monty Python's Flying Circus than anything else.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to get my food tube ready and throw my pasta bear in the microwave!

this show is totally hit and miss for me. some stuff is brilliant - steve brule, etc.

but the poop jokes, the poop jokes and the vomit jokes just make me disgusted. like, i think it could still be funny without diarrhea pants.

Yeah, I was very amused for a while but I think they cross the line from funny/awkward to plain disgusting way too much. Starting to find it pretty tedious... Steve Brule is still great though

my favorite things about T&E are the little, tiny moments. the half-mispronunciation of words in a sentence that never get attention called to them, the split-second facial expressions, the careful misappropriation of a concept or behavior to make it almost-like-real-life but not-quite-right. If those little tiny things are lost on you, if you're overlooking them and keeping your eye on the "big stuff" or the "punchlines", in my opinion you are accidentally missing 99% of the reason T&E are funny and entertaining (also if you just don't find those little things entertaining).

agreed! It's just that sometimes a really bad poop joke can overshadow the little gems. I have laughed myself to the point of tears watching T&E.. and it's always those amazing glitch/bad editing parts... or the parts like 'tiny hats' when the character's winking sounds like bubbles popping.

yes, exactly

but i do agree with you guys, T&E would be just as funny and perhaps funnier without the in-your-face poop jokes. some of their gross-out humor is so bizarre and awesome that I wouldn't want it to go away (Make my Bub Bubs Bounce) but stuff like the Poop Tube doesn't really make me laugh.
