Just a quick question. Does this sound similiar in vein to BOC's darker/melancholic work at all?? Corsair or Olson or a combo of the two.

The best I can say about it is that it sounds like somebody has hit a few harmonious keys on a string preset. It doesn't do anything for me I'm afraid. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's how I feel about the music.

It sounds nothing like Corsair or Olson, because those songs take great care to work with the sounds of the instruments and layers to produce something that grabs you emotionally. Corsair for instance is primarily a drone note with a few harmonious notes played over the top of it. If you were to simply pick out those notes on a string preset on a keyboard it would be a very tedious song indeed, but listen to what's going on; the notes are modulated by a time-varying filter, the instrument itself sounds interesting, and not like a digital keyboard's preset, and it generally works as a soundscape. The result is something that makes you feel, whereas the tune above could have been produced programmatically by a machine.

The BoC tracks also show a mastery of dynamics. They know how to use quiet and loud to control the user's feelings. This is particularly evidence in Olson. Listen to the way it builds up, getting louder and louder before dropping off with that wonderful piano. I remember listening to that for the first time and feeling like I had been punched in the stomach by an angel.

Look at Farewell Fire. That's not much different from your tune in terms of production. It's probably played straight on a keyboard, but the dynamics give it a haunting, melancholy quality, it is played with feeling (the tempo varies throughout) and the repeating melody is strong enough to justify the track.

It's all about production.

Very well said. Basically this track just lacks some interesting dynamics. Also it terms of production i think it needs a serious eq overhaul so it really feels like it's buzzing deep.

Exactly my thoughts.

I don't really like it sorry. But who am I to say that, most of my music is worse than that, so yeah, it was really good.
