Stargazing Live

Great show. It was on BBC2 last night, tonight and tomorrow. Check it out on iPlayer.
Last night Dayvan Cowboy was used but tonight when they were talking about CME's and Solar Flares, they used Pete Standing Alone to great effect... amazing visuals of the sun mixed with power stations and infrastructures on Earth. Then straight after they played Olson.
Great stuff... can't wait till tomorrow's show.

Yeah, I was all over this. Prof Brian Cox (aka. God. The modern-day Carl Sagan) AND Dara O'Briain (no idea why he's involved, but I love the guy).
The addition of Pete Standing Alone was just perfect. An added bonus.

loved this. esp the detail Brian Cox goes into without blowing our minds!
the BOC stuff was a great surprise.
incidentally, Brian Cox was keyboards for D:Ream back in the early nineties..

Top of the Pops - he put the link up on Twitter a while back. Funny as..

Forgot about this! Thanks for the reminder, just watched the first one. It's quite well done. Dara and Brian work really well together. Brian Cox is great. He comes across as that geek that we all wish we were ourselves..

I hate living in The Netherlands, awesome documentaries and other cool stuff never shows on Dutch television. Plus, because I don't live in the UK/US I can't watch anything they broadcast and put on their site either.
Man I need to see this, Stars and BoC.
1 glimpse of awesomeness was when they aired ''Joanna Lumley in the Land of the Northern Lights'' last week.

agreed, it's rare for anything worth watching to be broadcasted here in the UK. bbc two/four have some interesting documentaries from time to time...i hope bbc two do consider creating more gems such as stargazing live, many people seem to be enjoying it.

I always thought BBC made really good documentaries, I've only seen a few but still, the few I watched where pretty good. Then again, I have only seen like 4 or 5 ;p

Seriously - for those of you how haven't checked out his
Wonders of the Solar System series on BBC1, check it out. Buy the
DVD - you won't regret it. Brian Cox is the real deal.

I'm currently in China so i downloaded it from a torrent site.
Watched the first one, which was excellent, and when they mentioned discussing the speed of light or 'lensing' or whatever, "in the pub" it made me wish i was back in the UK again. ( only cos Chinese beer is terrible. )
The BBC do the best nature and science documentaries. I miss those too.

Just found this incredible (and free) bit of software.
Stellarium gives you an always up-to-date starmap, based on your location. Most of the star maps out there seem (to me, a total novice) very difficult to understand and calculate. This, on the other hand, is genius.
Totally idiotproof and an awful lot of fun. In 15 mins, I had it installed, setup and I'd wandered outside to see Jupiter, possibly one of it's moons, as well as the Great Nebulae of Orion and Andromeda. OK, I
think I saw the last one, but you take my point.
PS - shouldn't this thread be in Playground??? Meh, whatever.
