This is one of my favorite bands and i wonder if a lot of people here like them, or came across their work through BoC...?
And what is your favorite record ?

I've actually never heard their stuff before but I definately want to check it out. What's it like?

It is a lot like BoC actually...at least in the way it makes me feel.
Many clichés have been said about them but i really think this work is gorgeous and quite innovative. (is this a word?)

well, i guess a lot of jounger ppl who say that the like ISB is prolly an influence from BoC...same thing happened with me.
i dld ISB - Wee Tam, which was really odd first half an hour, because i never listened to folk music with so much detune in voice and instruments!
i rather enjoy them now...wee tam is my all time favourite album with every great track on it.

yeah, i think they're amazing. i bought they're DVD 'be glad for the song has no ending'
it was shot in 1969 out in the welsh countryside. It's quite amateur in some of its visual
content but there is a segment just before the end that is 100% BOC reference material.
i'd seriously recommend all BOC fans to get the green in, and give it a watch.
its a really interesting an emotional film and it provides an insight into some of the more
obscure references in BOC's music, while emphasizing the farmiliar ones.

i have two of their discs...i love them. folk music at its finest

Agreed. It needs time and a bit of imagination. I am just listening to swift as the wind, this is a really arresting song. There is so much going on with the chords that reminds me of the initial off kilter appearance of BOC's sound before I paid full attention and heard more.
Also, anyone notice the song from hangman's daughter;
'Koeeoaddi There'?
Perhaps an influence for part of the Geogaddi title? Probably old news...

i got into ISB through BoC only to find my dad was into them, small world

I love ISB as well. Got into their music through BoC and never quite got out The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter is my favourite from ISB's body of work... It was the first album I heard by them, I was a bit baffled but then fell in love with A Very Cellular Song.

A year or so ago I found that vynil at a local record store and remembering that ISB were and influence on BoC I bought it. Its interesting stuff, but its all I have by them.

I don't really see much connection between BOC and ISB, other than, maybe some sort of folk element... I like Hangman's Beautiful Daughter. When I listen to either band, I hear something pastoral, almost fairy-tailish, almost medieval or chamber-esque... I can't find the movie that ISB made... Mike states that it is one of his favorite movies

So, I've been meaning to check these guys out for a couple years now. I started downloading some of their stuff. I instantly recognized a blatant sample job that BOC did. There's a little flute flutter in a track called When The Music Starts To Play that happens around 2:10-2:15... and it's the same one you hear in their remix of Dead Dogs Two while they guys are singing, "it's hard to stand the sight of two dogs dead..."

I've always been into older folk music so yeah, these guys are pretty good. The guys voice is a little harsh, especially on the lower registers but still. It's nice to hear some sitar and flute work once in a while.

I only have: The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter from 1968 on vinyl. I got it from my dad. I always liked it, but never gave it that much attention. Maybe now is a good moment.
