I haven't even played this game yet.

All I've done is watched trailers and pissed myself multiple times (fortunately, I'm only kidding.. for right now).

As one reviewer put it, "While it's not perfect, it's a great constipation aid."

I actually just got done playing this game about 3 weeks ago... it is indeed shit-your-pants scary and well worth the money, especially to support the development team which is really only a few people. Well recommended, if you're ok with playing a first person game without any weapons. Also recommended, from the same company (Frictional games) is the Penumbra series, which is 3 shorter games, also survival-horror/puzzle games but *gasp* you can actually kill the monsters (albeit by hitting them with hammers or pickaxes, which is pretty difficult.) And they have a new game in the works, that won't be survival-horror, really looking forward to that to.

This is probably my favorite game to come out in the last few years. Admittedly I've only played less than half a dozen new games in that time but still. It's great. I completely got immersed into it. Tried to play it in the longest sittings possible to stress me out the most while playing.

Stop watching youtube videos of it before you play. It will ruin the game for you.

Yes, this is a really great game, atmospheric and on the same level of scary as Silent Hill. I actually liked Penumbra a bit better though, I thought it was actually kind of scarier. Also the story in it was really good. If you like this game you should definitely check out Penumbra, it's only 20 bucks for all three. :)

bassface: Where did you get your info that it's not going to be a survival/horror game?

This is from Wikipedia:
With the completion of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Frictional Games is currently developing an untitled game, along with version 3 of the HPL Engine. When asked about their upcoming game in a recent interview, Frictional stated that "Yup, its well on its way. It’s a game that is not mainly a horror game, there will be horror for sure, but not something that is the only thing the game is about. It will definitely continue and try to improve on the type of games we have made so far, so we are not all of the sudden sitting down and trying to make a platform game."

I wouldn't be so sure - but I can see what you mean:

EDIT:
Oh, and thanks for the introduction!
I'm a real survival-horror enthusiast, but I somehow managed to overlook this at the time
of its release, so I'm downloading it now. :)

Have you played it yet? There's a free demo on Steam I believe.

That video is awesome. It sucks that I have an Intel card, which the game won't support, so I can't play it. However it has just occured to me that it may work under Linux since Intel drivers there have better OpenGL support there. I'm about to test it.

What the video doesn't show is the 15 minutes or so of nothing significant happening that builds up to that area he's in. The story building up to that point once you've been in a couple of the previous areas starts to get creepy. This game is all about suspense. Subtle things happening that creep you out but don't outright horrify you. Then when something major does happen it's got you primed to freak the fuck out.

I actually played the whole game, and I meant that I didn't think the game was that scary, not the video.
