The other day, my older brother was driving my car, and I guess I had left a BoC mix CD. It was a CD of their remixes, including the Hell Interface "Trapped".

So he asked me who did that remix (Note: We're talking Hell Interface, not Old Tunes). I said BoC. And he didn't believe me because he had never heard it before. I was really surprised because he's a hardcore fan like me, and even knows tracks like "The Story Of Xentrix."

So after lightheartedly arguing about it, he finally admitted "Alright, well if that is Boards Of Canada, then that is like the most different track from their sound they've ever done."

So what track would you say is the most out of character track BoC have done. Meaning hat it differs from their other material and general sound.

I would say the Trapped Hell Interface Remix, and I'd also add "David Came To Mahana'im".

Boards Of Canada don't use that Ostinato Kick drum on every quarter note like Dance or Dubstep artists, which has always been something I respect about them, since I find those kind of beats to be lazy and unoriginal. I'll let it slide for "David Came To Mahana'im" since they use that kind of beat so rarely.

we've started up (i still love this song), the way you show (hate this song), iraq says (love this)...everything else just has that immediate BOC aura.

Oh yeah forgot this! The beginning is almost pure BoC but then it just drifts into...somewhere else.

Since BoC's style tends to change a lot, I can't really say there are any tracks that seem out of place.

Old Tunes vol. 2 struck me very different in several songs, though A Few old Tunes and the 35 tape always felt like them. Ones that felt not too BoC-ish to me are:

We've Started Up(which btw, I noticed if you play that intro backwards it sounds like the exact same tune still)
Nine Rubber Wisdom
It's A Whole 'nother Year
Breaking Nehushtan(this sounds like it'd be used in a water level of Donkey Kong Country 3 )

I like these songs all the same though Oh yeah, Trapped also doesn't feel like them, HI remix or the Old Tunes version. Thought they were going straight up gangster the firs time I heard it on Old Tunes

Haha, yup. They also had their "stereotypical white guy" phase. If I saw them and knew they were a band, but never heard their music, I'd think they'd be like an acoustic Rock or pop band.

i wish i had that kind of look.

Not to divert topic, but speaking of The Story Of Xentrix(as the OP mentioned), did BoC make that themselves or not? I feel like I remember reading it's an old thing that was posted on the internet back in the early nineties, but Google isn't helping much.
