So you're at a bar or pub for a drink or two with other likeminded people i.e an old friend or a fellow BoC head just chilling and having a chat and this is your favourite bar with great music etc. This place has any drink you could ask for plus light bar snack, so what would you order?

I'd go for gorgeous pear or apple rekordelig cider with some salted nuts or cheese and onion crisps. How bout yous?

Dr. Pepper with a cherry, ring of shrimp (lightly breaded), and a bowl of spicy sauce.


I'd love a cheeseburger but I don't think that counts as a "light snack". Also, nobody should criticize me for being a non-drinker. I'll have my brief moment of clarity be constant, not changing.

Hmmm. Depends.

If it's summer time then I might choose a dry cider of some description, or perhaps an ice cold Becks Vier.

However, if we're talking winter evening, dark outside, open fire, good company etc. then it's ale all the way. A pint of Tanglefoot, Fortyniner or (if I'm back home in Northumberland) either 80/- or maybe a Newcastle Exhibition. Might switch to a Guiness or a decent Porter if they have one on.

Having said all of this, I'll throw in a few JD and Diet Cokes or maybe the odd Morgan Spiced if I'm starting to struggle for bladder real-estate.

As to bar snacks. Maybe pork scratchings, maybe Scampi Fries, maybe a bowl of cheesy chips. All of which, however, would frankly be preamble to a sit-down curry at Westbourne Tandoori. Prawn Puree to start, followed by Chicken Tikka Dansaak, Keema Naan, Saag Aloo and a small pallet of poppadoms with a pint of Cobra if y'don't mind as well please Chief. Oh, and have one yourself while you're there sir. Thank you kindly.

Kraken Black Rum and Diet Coke.

I just go with the flow realy, I seldom drink.
I do like Bulmers Pear Cider though.

Vanilla Cream soda all the way.

Scaldis Amber Ale and a Bavarian pretzel.

alcoholic: whiskey, or a good IPA

non-alcoholic: barq's root beer

Uncarbonated Dr Pepper with a shot of mango pineapple extract and potato skins drizzled with that zesty sauce from burger king.

Oh, nice idea. Generally I'll be drinking a nice IPA - usually Deuchars, Stewart's Pentland if available or - if I don't fear a hangover, Brewdog's Punk IPA. if it's cold out, I'll go for a Guinness, if it's hot and I need something cold, I'll take a Black Isle Organic Lager.

After I'm done with pints, it's onto the single malt - maybe a nice Talisker or something from Islay.

Snacks? Scampish Fries, some kind of spicy nut or some marinated olives (specifically the huge warmed garlic ones served in the Shore Bar in Edinburgh.

Johnnie Walker Green Label on the rocks and a vegetarian grilled sandwich. lots of peppers and onions and tomatos all melted together with maybe provolone or havarti cheese? mmm. maybe a dill pickle wedge with the sandwich.

i very rarely drink...i don't think i've touched a drop of alcohol since travelling at the beginning of 2010...nothing like a good smoke though

That's ok Wyn. I think the 'The Olde Hexagon Sun Arms' is definately NOT included in the smoking ban.

It's old skool. Creaky wooden floors, low ceiling beams, open fires, proper bar with a 'snug' out back complete with leather wingback chairs. A shaggy dog called 'Olson' often pinches the best seat by the fire but we're all too busy playing dominoes, cards, or backgammon to notice.

And, of course, we've all got our own pewter tankards kept behind the bar.

Still the best. Or whisky.
