Hello MExicola

Now there are a shit ton of open minded positive, deep thinking and all round cool people on this thread, but recently I've just began to notice the wisdom and positivity in many of Mexicola's posts. Mex, you seem to be having a blast with your time on this planet. I'm only going by what you post on here and I'm sure there's a lot more/less positive stuff going on, but there could be people in their mid 30s like yourself being a whole lot less positive outlook. Be that career choices, being tied down or just time going too quickly, but it seems you are just getting on with your life and enjoying it for what it is. This is just by what I've read but still - your positivity and wisdom is inspiring so thank you!

Well THAT was something of a shock, let me tell you

Thank you guys - I'm touched actually. In counterpoint: my Mrs thinks it's 'odd behaviour' to be perfectly honest, and thinks you've mistaken the word 'wisdom' for 'wizened' but I can't deny my ego is suitably massaged.

Been reading John Peels' autobiography this week and I'm trying to think how he'd say thank you in some wonderfully funny, clever and self-depricating way. Truth be told though, I'm just a 37 year old Geordie exile with a dead-end job who loves his wife, his football team (Newcastle if you're interested) and his music and has pretty modest aims in life.

I'm still less certain about 'stuff' as I'd like to be and if I have any wisdom to empart (something I seriously doubt) then I can assure you it's probably been gained the hard way after making the same moronic mistakes repeatedly until I either (a) stopped, (b) started or (c) learned I didn't give an airborne intercourse in the first place.

Still, mine's a pint.

I also like Mexicola. Any Stars of the Lid fan is fine by me.

Man posting on this board makes me nostalgic for simpler times. College - spending way too much money on CDs. Adulthood is overrated......... ;)

I digress - hats off to Mexicola.

I completely 100% agree with this thread!

Mexicola is one of the coolest and truest dudes on this board or anywhere on this planet.

Well, let me chime in... The other day, just before this thread was started, another Twoismer and I were discussing this board and its visitors. One of the first things that came to both our minds was Mexicola. You can call it coincidence, our talk and this thread, or Mexicola did something very well :D. Mexicalo; your eloquency, opinion and gentleness are noticed, valued and appreciated...

Maybe that is wisdom? Isn't there some quote: "To know you are ignorant is the beginning of wisdom"?

Amen to all of this. Plus I've had the privilege of meeting the man himself. Even his local pub is awesome :D

I embrace this way of thinking to an extent as well.

Yes, one of my favorite users here. Love his sense of humor. Hope to meet Mex (and all you other cool people) on some epic BoC new album listening party or something.

Great poster, one of my favourites - always has something interesting or worthwhile to say. A proper gent... even if his football team are a bit dodgy

Ok, this is just silly now..... YOU GUYS!!! (makes hand gesture waving you away in mock annoyance)

At the risk of sounding overly self-depricating in the face of such a lovely outpouring of warmth, I feel I should share one of my little fears with you all... I often worry that I don't really have all that much to offer to you guys.

So many of you are so talented and creative in your own ways and all I've ever really done is just share the odd drone release that I've found (not created) and bang on about how incredible Stars of the Lid are (they really are by the way). Oh, I was also responsible for the 'Little Black Box' mass hysteria, so apologies about that. Me and Twoist had a good old chat about that down the Rising Sun pub in Wimborne. Can it really be five+ months ago?? Crazy..

In some ways, my heart gives a little sigh and a rueful smile each year when OOT comes around. I always pour over your collective works with something akin to awe and wish so much that I had the talent, patience and know-how to produce anything even half as incredible. I'm not going to name individual artists (for that's how I consider many of you) as to do so will invariably mean that, being the fallible human I am, I'll forgot someone that truly never deserved to fall down the back of the metaphorical sofa that is my brain. Suffice to say that finding I've apparently made any impression whatsoever on you guys, well, I'm honestly chuffed to bits!

At the risk of this becoming an Oscar Acceptance Speech (Oceansize song title - had to get one in!), I will reserve a special mention, however, for Ryan - a.k.a. The Disavowed. If this topic was an unexpected (and I'll maintain undeserved) treat, finding that he'd come out of Twoism 'Retirement' to say hello. Well, wow - that's a true honour. But Cole, Wyn, Andy, Fred, hell - ALL YOU GUYS...

Thank you!

Now - can we all get back to the serious business of stalking the Sandison brothers.
