Recommendations for the US of A!

Hello people,
I'm an Australian heading to the US in late december and plan to be there for the month of January. I'l be spending most of my time in San Francisco and New York. Can anyone recommend some good clubs/festivals at that time of year? Is there a website that I look up all this info?
If it helps; i'm into Hip-hop, IDM and techno.
