Pretty sure there's been a couple before, but this is pretty close.

22 Celsius is perfectly habitable and 2.6 times the mass of Earth, while probably being difficult to get used to at first, would be fine after a while because the inhabitants would eventually bulk up and become stronger until it feels earth-like resistance wise(they'd still probably fall a lot faster though).

The main problem, other than the obvious distance, is that a planet like that given the circumstances that we know as a fact sustains life here probably already has a bunch of species there. If we were to get there, we may find there's no sentient life, but after the time it would take, I wouldn't count on it.

Assuming space colonization becomes completely easy someday in the future with warp speed capable vehicles and whatnot, my feelings on it would be that if we show up at a planet that has civilization already existing on it, we should not enact an occupation of it. Planets with only small fauna/flora of prehistoric-level evolution would probably be best to colonize.

Anyways, I'm drifting into an unrelated area of sorts, so I'll just say K22B is interesting.

agreed. focus could be put mainly on introducing the more beneficial/necessary ones from Earth so that k-22b could really be colonized

thanks Rodheh for that reply i always enjoy hearing peoples ramblings on space and the like. hopefully they are firing some signals kepler 22 way at the moment. i really wish to see communication with extraterrestrials ,thats if you dont count the WOW signal. luckly if you go by the drake equation it dosent seem a total impossibility so fingers crossed

Maybe could've put this in the Space thread but no worries

What the drake equation doesn't tell you about is the chances of finding intelligent life. Sure there could be millions of extra terrestrial species out there, but none capable of communicating with earth

Even if we could travel light speed, these distances are still far to vast for us to seriously consider reaching them in the near future. Certainly an exciting and interesting find though, no doubt about that.

Nah. I was listening to a radio show last night that slammed the whole idea of them telling us stuff like this. He made some good points though. When they tell people stuff like this, they give you a made up picture and tell you it's a Goldilocks planet with the possibility for harboring life. Let's not forget that within the last 3 months they've made several reports that show they can't even track their own satellites, near earth objects, and have stated through the white house that there is no life out there at all. So, who or what are you supposed to believe?
