aww why not?
From the get go.. in my life I'd say
Duran Duran
Simple Minds
Depeche Mode
Kate Bush
Peter Gabriel
Cocteau Twins
Dead Can Dance
Garbage
Massive Attack
Bent
Boards of Canada
Bibio
Some of those have survived the years better than others. (kate bush and PG will always just be some of the greatest in my opinion even if they can't top their earlier work from the 80's)

Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard's stuff under its various aliases, together and solo (Reload, Global Communication, Harmonic 313, Troubleman etc). I have a load of rare stuff from them.

In order it went
Nirvana
Korn
Nine Inch Nails
Depeche Mode
Boards Of Canada
I pretty much gave up on obsessing after BoC. They were the ultimate obsession due to their lack of information. Every bit of info was therefore that much more satisfying.

It takes a lot for me to come really obsessed by a band.

Utada Hikaru
Imogen Heap
Moby
Nine Inch Nails
Massive Attack
Iamamiwhoami
Boards of Canada
I'm not so much into the first two anymore. All the other artists are fair game.

Was really into Gorillaz and Daft Punk as my first close to being "obsessed" artists, years back, and continued like that for a while until I got into BMSR, and then around the same time into Boards and Nine Inch Nails, both of which I'm still seriously into and both of which comprise my top two artists.
Even though I don't listen to it a lot and have become so used to it it no longer resonates well with me, I still consciously know how important Daft Punk is and know that they had a huge impact on electronic music in general and to my musical tastes, so I still appreciate them.
As for Gorillaz, I appreciate some of their old stuff moderately, but after they made that 2010 album...Plastic Shit, I believe it was called? I just can't take them seriously anymore.

All through the nineties it was definitely The Cure. I feel at some point that Mr. Smith and co. decided to release pretty much everything, and quality control was at a minimum.
Consequently, there have been what seems like thousands of releases, a lot of which are quite patchy to say the least.
I don't think I've been as obsessive about any band/ artist ever since.
I can really dig, even love certain artists, without feeling it necessary to own everything they've ever done. This includes BoC by the way....*runs away*

Are you a fan of A Silver Mt. Zion as well, then? I found them much more enjoyable than GY!BE (although I love them too).

I completed my NIN Halo collection (with all 3 versions of Halo 15) back in 2003. I stopped when With Teeth came out because I thought it was a terrible album.
Also I collect Opeth picture discs.
Autechre as well. But only the CDs. I couldn't be assed to get vinyl.
I don't get all fanboy though I just collect releases and see them live.
