Dang... Sooo glad I snagged them from the mediafire link on WATMM. Apparently they're being released with the Street Halo tracks as a 'Street Halo / Kindred' split or at least that's how it's labeled. Buying the vinyl and the CD if there is one being released...

Hmm. I just purchased the vinyl from Bleep and it didn't seem like this was the case. I have the Street Halo on vinyl too - but I wouldn't mind the two on CD.

its just you Cupz, this is pretty much as good as Untrue, it's amazing.

I know its as good as Untrue. That's because it is exactly the same formula as untrue... at least in my ears.

I don't mind though, its a nice sound. I just feel like a talented artist like him should have more up his sleeve and I'm interested in hearing what else he can cook up.

thing is I find it's not extremely different from Untrue, but it is a shift.

First off these tracks are mostly more ambitious and longer than his previous stuff.
The Kindred is the most similar, but even darker, harsher and faster than from Untrue.
The Loner is more of a foray into 4/4 beats and more commercial material. Loner is definitely the most commercial friendly track Burial has ever done.
Ashtray Wasp on the other hand is probably his most daring track ever released, it's a mix of the garage/2 step timing with the consistent house thump, but it's much more deeper and darker than anything he's ever done before.

Bitchfork gave it a whopping 8.7 score.

One of the best electronic ep's I have ever heard.

I probably don't even liked any previous Burial EPs but this one....so atmospherical...i think i wish to have it and listen on vinyl....absolutely must have

This is an issue I've thought a lot about with artists - especially artists that feel a lot of pressure to 'innovate'. This happened to DJ Shadow IMO - with bad results.

Burial certainly seems interested in a certain aesthetic and he's been sharpening that aesthetic till its razor sharp - the maturity of Kindred is amazing when you compare it to his self-titled. (though I still love that record)

I guess what it comes down to for me is that I am still not at a point where I find his records interchangeable - they all have tunes and moments that I keep coming back to and that seem distinct to me. When I reach a point with Burial that I feel like a newcomer could just pick any Burial album out of a hat and have basically the same experience - that's when I'd start worrying about his approach.

But until then - woo - this EP is amazing.

[Parenthetically, I sometimes wonder if this is not the very same issue that has kept BoC so quiet over the years - the need to be 'relevant' or 'innovative' or 'different' - hell I'd be perfectly happy with a freakin' box set of MHTRC era material, or any material for that matter. I don't have those expectations or needs at all.]

I remember when Simple Minds commented that they scrapped a whole bunch of stuff because it sounded exactly like the New Gold Dream album.. Yeah?! Well Release it because its the best you guys ever did.

Its not just you, man. His percussion is similar throughout his discography. Like.. Very similar. I like it though.. I put Burial into my work mix but thats about it.
