New album - Blues Funeral.

Does exactly what you want it to as well. That voice. THAT. Voice. Sounds like you feel after a 72 hour bender, a headache pickaxing it's way to your shrunken brain and a packet of Marlboro's for breakfast with a quick gravel gargle to follow. You can practically see him hanging off that mikestand, one-armed, looking like a wraith that's just been kicked out of bed.

That's the thing about Lanegan. If anyone else did this, you'd shout 'Cliché!'. There are lines in here as tacky as those motel floors he's undoubtedly woke up on. But somewhere buried deep, you just know he's lived those lines many, many times and if you want to be the one to go tell him he's wrong...well..... good luck to you. I've looked the guy straight in those slit-like gunslinger eyes more than once. Believe me, he wasn't giving anything away.

I need to investigate more Mark Lanegan - I love his work with Queens of the Stone Age and really like some of of the tracks he did with Isobel Campbell.

I keep meaning to check out the Screaming Trees too.

I'm sorry to drop my band into this thread.. but basically we are all huge mark lanegan fans, and if you are a fan of his it would mean a lot if you checked out our band..

A Northern Soul - I've a strong feeling, based on your other musical tastes, that you'd enjoy it. Screaming Trees were wonderful too, especially the Dirt and Sweet Oblivion albums. With his solo work, you can't go wrong. Field Songs is a blinder, but they're all lovely. Don't overlook the 3 records he put out with Isabel Campbell too.

I have a couple of older solo albums of his--your description is very apt!

Having a Mark Lanegan revival tonight having landed tickets to see him in Bristol next January.

I really like his work with Qotsa and Josh Homme. His vocal work on Songs for the deaf was pure cigarette and gravel. It's late enough to go drivin'...

Man Lanegan was smashed off his tits most the time back around 95. Looks seriously ill.

Loving the new album Phantom Radio by the way. Nice understated 80's, almost krautrock feel in places.

He's back and sounding exactly how you'd want.

And if that wasn't enough, take a blinding Pye Corner Audio remix I missed until recently. Holy moly.
