I also think it sounds like what this kid was doing was quite irresponsible. Sounds like he took a really high dose and not in a good environment (falling asleep on a high dose of mushrooms in your house and your friends leaving you?!).

I wouldn't say the problem here was the drug, but the approach to it. And I'm not in any way an 'advocate', or even an 'opponent' of this kind of drug use; I think people can make their own choices.

The drug wasn't the problem, it was the recklessness of the consumer and his "friends". Psychedelics respect you if you respect them. This could also be a scare story that the press releases every so often to stop people from trying things.

Another reason why psychedelics and firearms shouldn't be mixed. There is a time and a place for both, but not together.

Like fujee said, you have to respect the stuff and be responsible and serious about what you're doing.

And especially don't have guns around. That's surely a recipe for trouble.

I don't take drugs - but I don't think it's healthy to be too reactionary when negative stores come out.

If someone slips on a rug they placed on a polished floor and injures themself, it's their poor judgement - not the rug - that has ultimately invited the accident. Rugs, drugs, both lethal in the wrong hands. Search for those old Public Information Films if you don't believe me

If you deny yourself the amazing experience that is consuming shrooms based on a media article then you're definitely missing out big way. After consuming only once in my life I've really found myself more and more insterested in the subject, it was one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. But no newspaper has asked me so I guess it's not as important.

yeah it's a bit silly that his friends left him. first time i smoked weed from a bong i took way too much and started tripping balls, and the next morning "it didnt feel real" either, but at least i had someone there to throw me into the shower and start spraying me with cold water. that felt VERY real

Total propaganda-pushing move to make mushrooms look like the bad thing here, and quite the same sort of thing coming from various people regarding the gun. There's so many problems with this story and very few people actually seem to get where the blame lies.

"Several mushrooms". How many? Of course the news doesn't care, but if those are fresh mushrooms, several is probably way too much for a 17 year old unless he's a really huge guy...and "nightmare"? Were these normal psilocybin mushrooms or PCP-laced mushrooms?

The real problem here though - why does a 17 year old have access to both a firearm and drugs? I have never understood these stupid fucking parents who think it's a good idea to buy their kid a gun. This isn't 1912, they really don't need one for any reason at all unless you live in skidrow or something. Guns are for responsible adult owners, the same kind of adult who would have probably inquired proper dosage and done mushrooms in a safe setting with his/her weapon in a completely different location so he/she couldn't access it on the off chance he/she became delusional.

I'll tell you guys what Hicks would have said here. Referencing his bit on acid, his comment I'm sure would have been along the lines of "He's a moron, hasn't he had nightmares before? Don't you know you aren't making decisions consciously in a nightmare and that you don't realize it's just a dream when you have one until after you've woken up? That's why you're afraid in them! Why didn't he dump some cold water on his head first to see if he'd wake up? Good, the world's lost another moron."


I don't have any sympathy for this kid who did several remarkably stupid things. His personal experience with mushrooms is the kind that gets publicized while every amazing mushrooms story goes unnoticed, and that's FUCKING BULLSHIT. The very same kind of fucking bullshit that drives governments and politicians to pass legislature taking MY mushrooms and MY gun away from myself, a responsible adult who CAN handle both just because this twit couldn't handle either of them. Same thing with any other drug, just because some people are irresponsible, we still can't use them legally and responsibly. Same thing that when I get excruciating headaches from caffeine withdrawal and I want some pure codeine to relieve it, I can't fucking get it without it being bundled with shitty APAP that makes me lightheaded and slowly kills my liver. Why? All because some dumb fuck decided to take whole bottles of them before to get high and eventually ended up a sweating, puking, screaming mess on the side of the road somewhere. So now basically society is all one big kindergarten class, and nobody gets to go to recess now just because one of the kids fucked something up and the district says not to penalize an individual.

God, this unjust collective punishment and the ideas supporting it are so far away from the concept of liberty that barely anyone noticing or caring about it is staggering at a level beyond belief.

My mother has the same sort of reaction to things like these. Like when I told her that they banned super size drinks in New York (or NYC, whatever).

I mean, your mother must have a debilitating medical condition right? This condition can also be treated effectively and safely only by these super sized drinks, right? But then someone wanted one of these drinks just because it tastes good and they like it, and then they accidentally got fat because they didn't know how to limit their drinks properly. Now they're banned and your mother's only alternative are drinks that only half relieve her condition and on top of that cause side effects. If she seeks treatment from shamans that can still produce this super sized drinks, she gets chastised by her family and friends and has legal reparations! I'm exactly the same way as her man!

Oh, wait...except this isn't about super sized drinks. This is about something that is a real, serious issue to many of us in this country.
