Dr. Ellie Arroway, after years of searching, finds conclusive radio proof of intelligent aliens, who send plans for a mysterious machine.
Have any members of twoism seen this film? I recently acquired a VHS copy, and - while watching it with a friend this evening for the second time - thought some here may appreciate it.

Loved that movie; Jodie Foster in one of her sexier roles, Matthew Mcconaughey in one of his least obnoxious.

I love this movie! Hugely underrated. I can't believe the movie goes into all the depth that it does. I think, as annoying as they are, it deserves a remake, with mind bending visuals. The only bad thing I have to say is that the plot and dialogue gets a bit shallow sometimes.

Amazing film, I must've watched it at least a half dozen times.

I think this was everybody's first DVD, I seem to remember it came out just as DVDs really took over. Great film though.

Edit: Also! Has one of the best bits of really subtle trick photography in it. (Hint: where is the camera)

i[v'e watched this movie so many times not counting. i always thought there should be a sequel. with someone else to go. or someone could have made a mini-series. eight hours of recording leaves you hanging

I'm surprised this movie has such love here...

I remember seeing it when it first came out, and thinking it was okay-- but not special enough to be so highly regarded!

...I'll have to check it out again sometime

Also, I don't remember many gypsies in the film. This is a problem for me.

This was indeed one of the first DVDs I ever owned.

Always thought it was pretty underrated.

I saw it in theater originally, then on DVD, it has nice appeal for the time it was made. I've recently re-read the book that I had got 10 years prior to the movie, it starts to be a bit dated, the world has indeed changed quite a bit since Carl wrote it :)

Nevertheless, the themes remain the same, just different names.
