Just been to see Sinister and right from beginning of the film I was feeling a little bit of BOC, maybe because there's a fair bit of Super 8 used as 'found footage'. Imagine my surprise when near to the end of the film Gyroscope came on. Very effectively used, about time geogaddi was used for this kind of film, made my night! Loved the film, too, quite chilling.

Just saw it, really disappointing and just full of clichés Really wanted to like the movie, had high expectations but so much stuff just made me face palm haha. Although, the super 8 clips were awesome.

But yeah, hearing Boards of Canada was definitely the best part of the movie, really added to it. There were also tracks by Sunn O))) and Boris =]

I grinned and looked at my friend immediately, because I've been saying for a while that half the tracks on Geogaddi would be perfect for a horror film.

All in all, I liked it. Yes, the main character was a complete idiot for the most part, and apparently he forgot that there were lights in his house, but the whole concept of the Super-8 snuff films was freaky enough for me to overlook the flaws.

Honestly, there are so few really good horror movies anymore than one that's at least creepy and manages to make me tense is enough for me to appreciate it.

Saw this on Tuesday, was pleasantly surprised it was in this movie. I had the nostaglic feeling from the super-8 film quality but didn't expect gyroscope haha. My date must have been more scared of my excitement than the movie when I counted along with the song

I made a name on this site about a half year ago and never really posted ... just saw Sinister last night with my girlfriend and almost jumped out of my seat when I heard Gyroscope. Maybe this is needless to say, but it was the most exciting part of the movie for me, hahaha.

Movie definitely didn't meet expectations, but as everyone is saying in here, pretty much the whole movie I was thinking "Damn, they need some Geogaddi in this" I have to say, regardless of how cliche or easy-to-predict this was, the sound work was impressive. The repetitive sound clip during the video of the family burning in the clip stuck with me, was eerie as fuck.

A pagan deity that entices children and tells them to make Super 8 snuff films where they murder their families before he devours their souls? That is so Geogaddi!

And then there's the unsettling score and sound design. I noticed the BoC vibe early in the film with the eerie deteriorated/otherworldly quality of the sounds and music paired with those creepy-as-fuck 'home videos.' I was actually starting to wonder if the composer was influenced by BoC when, to my surprise, Gyroscope comes on.

I would be curious to hear the story of how this track made its way into the film and where the composer, Christopher Young, drew his inspiration because he apparently does mostly orchestral scores. I also wonder what the brothers thought of it.

By the way, according to Wikipedia,

Writer C. Robert Cargill's inspiration for the movie came from a nightmare he experienced after seeing The Ring, in which he discovered a film in his attic depicting the hanging of an entire family. This scenario became the setup for the plot of Sinister.

In an interview, Marcus said of the track Gyroscope,

I dreamed the sound of it, and although I've recreated dreamt songs before, I managed to do that one so quickly that the end result was 99% like my dream. It spooks me to listen to it now.

How cool is that?! A song based on a dream put into a movie based on a dream!

I watched this on Friday night, I was indeed pleasantly surprised. Its by no means amazing and there are some ridiculous / cringe worthy scenes but the aesthetics of the film with the super 8 footage and the whole vibe that's going on is a breath of fresh air for this type of horror.

I loved the opening scene, it was indeed sinister. Gyroscope fitted well I think and I could imagine a few other Geogaddi pieces fitting quite well too. If I wasnt already expecting to hear Gyroscope I think I might have jump up and done a little dance haha.

It was ok, some decent jump scares and a pretty silly ending, and Ethan Hawke is a pretty good lead. I did like the use of super 8 footage, but the editing of those little bits was a bit too good for the rest of the film.
It reminded me a lot of Insidious, which came out a few years ago, similar themes of haunted houses, man protecting his family etc. Not really digging the use of BoC's music though, but I guess it would have to be ok'ed by Mike and Marcus.

This has actually become one of my favourite horror movies! I don't know if it was maybe good that I didn't know Gyroscope was a part of the soundtrack, so when it started I was sooo thrilled!
I can agree that some of the scenes, was a bit too much but overall I really loved it! I love when movies starts realistic and then turns out to be something completely different from what you expected.

^same. when gyroscope came on it was so perfect, too. that song is so dark i'm glad it found a context in mainstream cinema that matched its vibe

I saw that film on the theatre -- which is actually a rarity for me. I went in with mixed expectations, because I liked the idea of exploiting the "eerie" feel of degraded, old recordings.

I hated it. I hated the film, and halfway through I was already enjoying the hatred itself much more than anything else, when WHAM, Gyroscope.

I actually have mixed feelings on that. Indeed, the music made me snap out of the film instantly, and its sole presence was like a reminder that "hey! the world is still great, despite crappy movies like this!", but I'm sort of bitter that, now, I'll always involuntarily connect Boards of Canada with crap horror films.

At the big, huge climax of the film, all I was trying to do is remember the title of the Sunn O))) track that was playing. It's Aghartha, right?

haha, i just saw this tonight and had never heard of it before, so the boc in this was a nice surprise!

I was watching it solely because of Gyroscope, and it cracked me up when the subtitles went "One, two, three, four..."
