Same here. I can't listen to his stuff all the time, but when I can, I'm always entertained by it. I like his production style. It has an early 80s demo tape vibe to it. His older stuff, anyway. His newer stuff is a lot cleaner (and much more impressive).

yeah ariel pink is great. haunted graffiti really inspired me. and house arrest is one of my most listened to records. he can be a jerk in interviews though.
i dont really like the new album though. the instrumentals are great but the lyrics are mostly crap. he's always written melodramatically but this time it just felt too cheap and spoiled it a bit for me. his solo stuff like oddities sodomies and the doldrums was way more sophisticated. i just think his musical style works out better in home recording. he's moving into more live performance stuff now, i guess. hm.

he was in an experimental group called shits and giggles which was pretty neat imo. out of control too.

i saw him live last month; he mostly played new material and flying circles was the only song i really enjoyed hearing so i got bored. ended up talking to james ferraro which was cool.

TBH, the only album I've heard from him is Haunted Graffiti!
I love the song Artifact from that album. I've had that on repeat

I haven't heard a lot of the new album. I haven't really given it much of a chance. I can't really get past Before Today. Before Today is a wonderful album, I think. It was a lot less lo-fi than his older stuff, but it's still a bit grimier than his new record. I haven't heard any of his solo/side-project stuff. I might give the internet a hefty AP search... I've heard good things about the new record, though. A friend of mine who's really big on Ariel Pink said the sound improved, musically. Your complaint is the lyrics, though.

Yes, R. Stevie Moore is a big influence of mine. I like that "anything goes" aesthetic with recording. There's no wrong way of doing it. He is definitely a pioneer of experimental home recording.

If he ever plays in Georgia, even if it's 3 hours away, I'll see it. Definitely worth the drive.

i'm in atlanta! he played at a place called the earl last month, a bit southeast of downtown and i'm in midtown. it just would have been too much trouble to try and navigate marta and i wouldnt want to do that late at night.

I saw Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti at the Kazimier in Liverpool last night. They were supported by Geneva Jacuzzi who is also his girlfriend, I think?. They played just over 60 minutes covering mostly stuff from their Mature Themes album and one or two other tracks including Fright Night.

After the gig he tried flogging his records at the side of the stage. It looked like he was involved in an argument with someone and without any warning he grabbed his records, stuffed them in to a case and legged it back stage.

Geneva Jacuzzi was there afterwards talking to fans and she explained that someone complained about the prices he was charging for his records and that he must have felt threatend by the language and that is why vanished.

You can charge what you like if you make it. Cheeky bastard whoever she/he is.

I'd love to see him live. Had the chance last year but missed it... Very quirky and innovative pop music!
