Would be cool if they started doing ad music and putting subliminal stuff in to make people take time to appreciate the simple things in life;

"yppah uoy ekam reven lliw tcudorp siht"

:wink:

I guess the BoC myspace is legitimate,I thought it was just a fan made page.
I dont know why i get pissed when BoC is advertised,
I know I shouldnt,
but it just feel as though something sacred is being taken away from me and thrown out to the masses.

I know Myspace.com is a pretty trendy thing right now, but I've found that it's a great avenue to find new music.

As of right now I have Hills West, Shockerbrown, Helios, Nybbl, and others bookmarked so I can hear their tunes.

I doubt the BoC myspace is for real.. so don't stress if it injures your esoteric musical sensibility.

Would the marketing of the video etc not be down to Warp? I'm sure BoC get a say in how their music/video is marketed, but at the same time, there will be some decisions like this made at Warp.

And it's not like it's being used to advertise The Sun or anything. And we all like to have clean teeth... :wink:

I've pm'ed Joyrex from watmm a time ago about the http://myspace.com/abeautifulplace and he confirmed it being a fan-based website. It's not by BoC

So rest assured guys :-)

I just skipped through the comments on the http://myspace.com/abeautifulplace and it's amazing how many people found out about Boards of Canada by having seen the advertisement on the myspace frontpage. I think it's cool that new people get to know Boards of Canada; it's good music and everyone is entitled to hear it, imho.

Of course you'll also have douchebags who'll think this is the new hype and only like it because of that but those people only last till the new hype comes up, trust me on this one.

I think a good percentage of those people that discovered BoC now because of the add will manifest themselves into true dedicated BoC fans who just didn't get in touch with their music before... It's a bit like me, I only got to know BoC in like 2001 or something, on accident because of a friend who listened a lot to them and even then at that very moment it didn't really grab me, but after hearing some more and venturing into the depths and mysteries of this duo I got very excited about all of it and yeah I was hooked and still am obviously.

So give these new people the chance they deserve and don't mind the hyped-up-fans.. they won't last.

Well said! We all got into BoC (and all the other music we're into) somehow. We've all got tunes that mean different things to us, and kids getting into Dayvan Cowboy via MySpace ain't gonna change that. Remember when you were 15 (feels a long time ago!) and discovering amazing music for the 1st time? I wouldn't want to deny anyone that amazing feeling!

the music might bring a new crowd, but who cares? maybe now it'll be even easier to find their music, and you'll at least have boc to talk about with myspaceheads. i'd say it's definitely good publicity, but admittedly a really weird venue.
